Sacroiliac joint causing pelvic pain?

Hello I am new here 👋

About 4 weeks ago I was painting some walls in my house, for about 2-4 hours everyday for a week, I was going up and down a ladder quite frequently and I’m only 5’0 so there was a lot of stretching and reaching required and I ended up with a sore lower back at the end of every night, I even needed my partner to help me sit up from a laying down position a few times. Weirdly enough I was always fine by morning and continued painting the next day (regret 😩).

On about day 6 or 7 of doing this, I started to get bad pain radiating to my outer hips, the top of my hips, into my groin, down my legs and alarmingly my pelvic area. Obviously I panicked, because I wasn’t even remotely aware back issues could cause pelvic pain, I went to the doctor thinking something was wrong with an organ but she said it seems like a Sacroiliac joint issue judging where I’m saying all the pains are and gave me a referral to a physio to see if it helps, which I’m seeing for the first time next Friday.

I was just wondering if anyone else here has experience with pelvic pain from a back issue? Is there anything I can be doing in the mean time to not irritate it? I’ve been trying not to do anything strenuous but I’ve been walking everyday for about 20 minutes, not sure if that’s helpful or detrimental. I’m 28 and must admit I’ve never taken particular care of my joints or back, nothing like a wake up call to get you to take notice haha

Sorry for the long post but thanks for hearing me out x 😊

Hi there. I’ve suffered with sijoint for years mostly aching, but this year I started have pain right side stomach same side as my back ache . In October my back totally seized and went into spasm horrendous pain went into right hip and groin and leg , the stomach pain in same side got worse , when I could walk again I paid to see chiropractor I did ask whether the back pain could radiate to the front she says no but I’m not sure as pain an be referred .I’m pretty sure musco skeletal problems can affect stomach , is your pain same side as the pelvic pain if so then it’s linked x

Oh gosh I’m sorry to hear about your SI troubles as well, I hope you’re on the mend now. My pain seems to affect both left and right SI joints, which is bad luck I guess. It alternates though, some days only my left will be achy and some days my right or some times they ache at the same time, I find the pain can be relieved a bit if I gently massage a particular spot on my lower back area. My pelvic pain seems to be equal in the front to where it hurts on the back, it also radiates around the hips.

Do you find that seeing a chiropractor is worth it? x

If you can’t get physiotherapist then yes as it’s quite expensive I didn’t want to wait on list to have physio over the phone !! X

Just started physio/acupuncture for this 2 weeks ago and beginning to feel relief. Also doing some specific SI stretching at home (Just from you tube). I get all the pain you describe as well as an irritated bladder and bowel. (But I Also Have adenomyosis)I exercise alot ( 13 half hr sessions a week) and asked my physio if in should stop. He said no- but to listen to my body if it feels like it needs a rest.

As a result of this pain I have had every gynae test possible....ultrasound, smear, mri, hysteroscopy and laparoscopy. Some of my pain is adenomyosis related I know, but SI joint pain can def be felt in your lower tummy.

If you can afford it, go see a private chiropractor/physio. My sessions are £37 for half an hr.

Gill Xx

Thanks for the reply Gill! I’m glad you’re beginning to feel some relief, it’s such a nuisance of a pain, it can be quite difficult to describe to people that don’t understand it because yes it’s back pain I guess but it causes so many other areas of annoyance grrr 🤔

I’ll reply back and let you know if I see some improvements with chiropractic/physio, Covid makes everything a little bit more difficult also haha 😭 x
