Pregabalin - not helping yet?

I’m still on low dose - 25mg x 3 daily. I’m meant to be increasing but scared in case of weight gain and also it gives me palpitations during the night.

How long should I give it to make a difference to my awful pelvic pain? So far it’s been nearly 2 weeks of slow increase.

Hi Twitchytoes, Sorry you are suffering so much, but I’m afraid it could take a while longer to work. I’ve not had pregabalin, but it took about 3 months and two dosage increases before gabapentin helped my pain. I suppose the good news is that it might help given time. I didn’t experience weight gain. Have you told your doctor that it’s giving you palpitations at night?

Thanks Joolibee. I am going to take the next increase tonight so that I can tell my GP whether or not it’s helping when i see her at the end of this month. I had to stop Gabapentin 4 years ago due to seeing double and bad mood changes.

She wrote me a sheet with suggested increases in dosage and I seem to avoid palpitations if I follow it rigidly. Her timings are 8am, 12pm and 8pm which means I’m not going straight to sleep after it as I was previously doing.

Pregabalin seems much better re side effects but I’m definitely a bit foggy on it. However I have a body wide autoimmune illness and a herniated L5,S1 so it’s hard to know what’s causing what. But my physio and GP are adamant that it’s not the herniated disc causing the groin and genital pain.

Anyway I feel I should try to stay on it as the groin and pubic pain are so intense. It actually gets much worse by evening similarly to my burning lips and gums - so I do seem to need some form of pain relief as can’t tolerate any others apart from Paracetamol.

Good to know Gabapentin works well for you

Hi there twitchytoes, pregabalin does work well for pelvic pain etc when on the full dose of which is 300mg twice a day morning and early evening. that's what I had to build up to eventually a few years ago. I also take amitriptyline 75mg a night and I have a quality of life now if I take them at the same time every day. I get breakthrough pain now and then but I can cope with that as I have been on these two meds for nerve pain for5yrs now. its inevitable to gain weight ime sorry to say I have, but its better than being in agony every day. hope this helps.
