Rectal muscle spasm

Hi! I am suffering from what appears to be a rectal muscle spasm. I have extreme pain following a BM sometimes lasting up to 8 hours. Lying down is the only thing to take the edge off the pain. In desperation I had Botox injected in November. I seemed worse following the Botox procedure but was told it would take 2 weeks to really kick in. Perhaps it was the trauma of having it injected, I don't do well with anasethic etc seemed to cause more pain than the original diagnosis! After 2 and a bit weeks I noticed some relief but not total pain coverage. I can't seem to locate any trigger points, internally or externally, nothing is extremely painful to touch which makes me wonder if I'm getting diagnosed properly. whilst I do notice some random tightness when stressed or anxious nothing compares with the pain following a BM! I have tried internal vaginal stretching under the guidance of my physio but no relief yet. I am seeing Natropath as well and chiropractor but nothing specific seems to be working. I thought it was worse at certain times during the month around my period and ovulation but then other months the pain seems unrelated to my cycle. I had a flexiscope to rule out bowel issues but it revealed no abnormalities. Also transvaginal scan but nothing out of the ordinary there either. Have tried tramadol and endone but no relief. Also tried a month on endep but this seems to be constipating so went off it. Have tried Valium suppositories inserted rectally but this seems to have no effect and possibly also causing pain just to have it up there! I filled a script for baclofen today so really hoping this works for me! Any suggestions for pain relief? Have you noticed any links with food? Or with period cycles? Anyone else out there suffering with rectal muscle spasm?!

Small thought, eat for soft stools and take Lactulose or something similar, which may lesson the tenseness in the rectum area and loosen the stools for when you pass them. And after passing them, gently wash that area, perhaps apply Vasaline on some occasions and lie down in bed for 30 to 40 minuets . Before setting feet on the floor again.its a routine I do everyday.. Of course I realise your situation is worse than mine but I feel it is worth a try .

I have spasms in buttock and burning pain down thigh. One Dr said I had Levator ani Syndrome with Pudental Neuralgia. Next Dr said I didn't have Levator Ani Syndrome. Have had two bilateral nerve blocks with no success. Fortunately no pain with bowel movement and no pelvic pain. My spasms seem to occur when I lay down. Taking Tramadol 50 and Baclofen but Baclofen did not help. Now trying rice heating pad. Since it's mostly spasms and low back pain I am going to give it a rest. Afraid if I keep trying treatments they might make condition worse.

Live in US and Drs seem to be guessing. Ricky68

Yes. Dr said it was my Levitor Ani muscle.

After 6 weeks of massage therapy and taking valium. Pain was still a 10. 24/7.

Yesterday I had botox in 3 of the trigger points. And put on baclofen. Better. I have an

Appointment at the end of the month to do botox into the Levitor muscle.

Good luck. It's a long painfull road. Every Dr

Has their own ideas. Good luck.

So sorry for your miserable suffering. The anticipatory anxiety must be paralyzing. Someone else mentioned keeping stools soft. Have you tried a comprehensive adult bowel management program? You can look it up online. It won't magically take away the painful spasm, but may help somewhat overall.

Try to keep the stress down.Do raw smoothies(greens and fruits) flax, fish and borage oil all in one bottle(Walmart) and msm powder.Walk.Use a vibrator and put a steroid suppository in your rectum.Let the vibrator calm that rectum muscle down. You can let the vibrator lay on the rectum. You don’t have to insert.I prayfully hope that works for you. Those are the things I did to get better.

Hi there! How do you let it "lay on rectum"? I just bought one today to try and help. Thanks!

I had Botox injections in December with the same results. I can't feel trigger points as much anymore internally but the pain is definitely there. I had a flare up of pain following Botox also.

My pain also extends down my leg and into my calf muscle at times.

Botox has ruled out the muscles compressing the nerve so I am thinking my pain is coming from the Sacral nerves. S2 seems to correlate with my symptoms.

Yes I have Levitor Ani syndrome

Any side effects from the baclofen?

Tired. Didn't  like the feeling. Didn't do anything for the pain. Doctor said to stop taking since it was doing nothing for me. I haven't  found anything that works for the pain.

You may want try cyclobenzaprine 5 mg....I have levator Ani and I started this last night and it really zapped the spasms and made it much better I'm also going to try pelvic floor physical therapy and CBD oil

Very sorry for your pain.  Haven't struggled with this type of pain but have other issues.  As for pain I am at a point of trying Medical marijuana.  I have heard many people are benefitting from this.  I will keep you posted.

My rectal spasms started after a hemerrhoid banding. I had my son 27 years ago who ripped me all the way. My spinchters were compromised, when the surgery was done I got over dilated and have had constant pain ever since. I hate the dopy meds! I one day took my icy hot tens unit and placed it near my back hole...it stopped he spasms. I next purchased a tens unit, $29 on the net, placed two pads on either side of back hole...really helped. Well now after months of digital manipulation I kinda have a program. I have to take either MagO7 or cape aloe...as chronic constipation needs first to be controlled. After pooping, I clean myself out with water in old enema bottle sitting on potty. I just started the anal tens probe...I think it nailed the spasms head on. Kind a weird but it worked! I refuse to live on drugs, or go thru all these crummy tests. I have done accupuncture taken dopey pills...digitally manipulated with working pressure points...you name it. My Colo doc is a complete ass, who advised me I will most likely end up with a bag...do ya think he would ever admit to screwing me up? He is in a box that he can only think in. This tens probe was easy, direct to the spasm spots, I know I found the answer..I think it will just get better and better. I have an appointment to see the head Colo at Loma Linda University Hospital. I am going to request whatever the best image technique used, I am going to let her know the stuff I have discovered myself. I went to a pelvic floor therapist who found nothing wrong with me. My spinchters are messed up by another Demi God who just over dilated an already compromised spinchter. If I have to live with this forever, I at least can control it. I do not need any bag I poop fine...it just hurts forever after. This doc will get sued. When I went in for my after care surgery appointment, he never even checked the surgery! I have seen him three times since, never offered any sort of help. This doc at LLU is a patient advocate...he has no idea how much his little pompas ego might get shattered. Look into Tens 7000, and the anal probe. It was quite amazing none of these idiots know? Why pay to go to a therapist. I am a specialized therapist for 49 years, but the other end orafice.

I hope the helps someone!

I looked up Tens 7000 anal probe. It seemed to be being used to cause people to have anal orgasm and also causes sexual stimulation in both men and women. I'm confused. I have no desire for that or any artificial sexual stimulation. I'm looking for pain relief from Rectal and pelvic floor spasms that are debilitating. Confused.

I never have used either for any type of sexual arousal! I feel horrible that you would even consider this! I was advised by a prominent colorectal surgeon who is on staff at a very prestigious hospital in the USA. Loma Linda University. Who could even think about sex when they have this pain! It seems as though all the people on this site are into drugs, well I am not! You must have gotten on some sex site or something. Just keep taking your pills...but do get your coccyx bone checked. I am totally appalled at your suggestion! You are absolutely disgusting to write such a thing....I was writing the truth! What do you think of the therawand? Is it a sexual toy too? My Pelvic Floor Therapist advised me to use the same items! Well I am coming out of pain from using these items, and my pelvic therapist rents them to her patients. I think you need to do more research, before writing trash!

Get your coccyx bone checked, this was out of alignment and totally overlooked ...I just saw my therapist, it is staying in place, was advised to continue with all items! As well as the Doc, 4 days ago...stay on same items! Geez pull your head out of the sand! My out of line coccyx bone caused the whole issue for a year. Every floor muscle originates from that little bone.

I am leaving this site, as I have seen others do...you are disgusting!

I was trying to help people! Have never in my life been into anal sex!

You must be, to write or be knowledgeable about why you spoke of!

FYI...try typing in Google chrome: Tens anal probe for rectal pain...

Maybe you will feel a little thick! All and many listed are for rectal pain,

The regular tens 7000, i use for the main unit, and place the pads on either side of my rear orifice, if I did not have this device that has helped so much, I do not know what I would have done, the pain was dibilitating! Educate yourself please. Read about what a tens unit does before making claims like you did. The impulses over ride the spasms, no drugs are needed. I prefer to not be dopey. You are entitled to your own opinion, but before writing something so off the wall educate yourself.

I really appreciate your advice and experience. I hope you don’t leave this site because I, for one, would like to be able to follow your progress and discoveries. I am going to loom up the tens probe now; I will check back to see if you reply again in the event I have questions. Thank you for your help. I am going to try it.

Can you provide a lonk to which probe you purchased? There are a few different kinds and I just wonder which you found as I would like to get the same one.

My husband found it, it is white with two silver bands, it is shaped like an arrow, it has a little round stopper .I just found the bag it came in. I am a woman....but a but is a but, lol! It says:. K- fit Kegel Toner Male adaptor.

It says it's not for floor pelvic use, but my therapist approved it. I place it so the rings spaz out the internal spinchter, and override the spasms.

I don't use it everyday as we found my real issue, or I found it! I asked

What is this rubber band feeling thing right under my external spinchter..

Oh! My! Your coccyx bone is completely out of alignment! Well all floor muscles originate in the coccyx...no one pays attention to it! Once realignment was done, it has stayed in place, and the spasms are less. I still use the tens patches on either side of my rear hole, just for a little time now, as I was told it will take time for all the ligaments, and muscles to work in harmony again. I use the therawand, and all the Ani levator group are out of pain. It's that stupid internal spinchter! I know I was overdilated during the hemerrhoid banding! Just had an MRI done of coccyx and sacrum, my L4/5 is going to need neurosurgery, as I have had bilateral neuoropathy in both feet for two years ....so my PCP are meeting next Tuesday, and I have an appointment with a very good neurosurgeon

August 2nd. They thought it was diabetes.....here is the bar code number for probe...X000VLHFBL...look near tens 7000 units, white shaped like arrow, and override those spasms! Best wishes ...lots of fun. If this keeps up, I am going to ask for a spinchterectomy!

kalecolbe12 in reply to olivedog

why are you thinking of a shincterectomy...will that help?

olivedog in reply to kalecolbe12

They have me on dilation now, has taken away the spasms when not going. I have chronic constipation, was taking MagO7 and doing ok, they switched me to Miralax...I knew this was not going to go well.

I broke out in a was around my eyes, the stuff makes you strain, and it come out very thin. It's like I backed up my progress, cause now I an not even go. These are Loma Linda Staff Doctors. I just do not believe they know what they are doing again, I have been to six doctors. I think I ended up with anal stenosis from the hemorrhoid

banding. I just wish I could get over this. Obviously the surgeon who did this was too aggressive. I have a friend who has had this done twice, no problems! Why me???

Thanks for asking ...it quite lonely!!!

Hi there! Can I just use a regular tens unit patches on both sides of my rear hole? I have the one from CVS for back. But it has two small patches. Do you think it would be ok? Thanks!

I bought the tens 7000 on the net. It has been dropped, it still worked like a champ for a year and a half. Good to have in house, for other muscular aches.

Thank you!! I may have to buy one. I have pain after bowel movements not during. It’s like the bm triggers something, my doctors and I are not sure if it’s muscle spasms or the pudendal nerve being stretched. The only clue that it might be pudendal nerve and not spasms is that I feel relief when sitting on toilet. The only thing that has helped me with pain is tramadol. Good luck! Thanks again!

Yes I’m still pretty much the same ☹️ Tramadol is still helping. Have done 2 nerve blocks with little relief. Tried every nerve medication, muscle relaxer, amitryptiline, etc.., Not sure what I’ll do next.

I am doing the curable app which is a mind over matter brain training...worth a shot!! Also thinking of doing David mcoid's DCT resistance training for pelvic floor pain...you hadn't had a test to see if your inferior rectal nerve branch of pudental nerve is trapped have you?,I may still see a neurologist to get that test ...I'm also going to give pelvic floor PT which has helped a lotbut I think it's time to take a break because I think it flares it now and I'm going to start stretching and just do my breathing how to calm my nervous system down
