Pelvic Inflammatory Disease?

Hello everyone,

I've been diagnosed with PID (pelvic inflammatory disease) several times the last few years and was diagnosed again just under a month ago. I've been on antibiotics, (doxycycline) but they don't seem to be working this time.

Is it normal for PID to take a while to go? And are my symptoms normal? I'm getting bloody discharge, pressure in my pelvic region, sharp pains in my vagina, pain in my side, hip pain, back pain, my ribs hurt, the back of my legs hurt.. And I get SO bloated and uncomfortable. I'm so terrified that something is seriously wrong.

I've got a scan scheduled in two weeks. Will this show if anything else is wrong?

Each time I've been to the doctor's, they've just told me to wait for the scan. I'm just worried that the longer I wait, the worse whatever this issue is will get.

I'm getting a lot of brown discharge and I'm just very concerned. I am in the ovulation period at the moment, and I've heard that brown discharge can be common during ovulation. But I don't know if it's to do with that or to do with the PID..

The doctor's don't seem to be listening to me and to be honest, I'm starting to feel like a bit of a nuisance.

Any advice? :( x

Hi Elizabeth

I feel for you.... I suffer from very similar symptoms and after many visits to Doc I eventually landed in hospital emergency with a cyst on my right ovary...an mri a cpl of days later showed hydrosalpinx in both fallopian tubes, a 5cm cyst on my right ovary and a fibroid in my uterine wall. I have read that fibroids can sometimes give you sharp pains in your vagina, and they're very difficult to explain to someone who's never experienced it, but i empathise with you cos i know myself it really hurts at the time!

I've had 2 lots of really strong antibiotics and i still get all the same pains too. I'm now in the process of getting a hysterectomy (although I'll be left with my left ovary) .

That's all probably not much help to you Though sorry.... All i can say is that my dr kept not taking me seriously until i got a locum who sent me for an urgent scan which revealed the cyst etc and started the treatment process. I just have to bear it until surgery. I hope your scan shows something definite (but nothing scary serious) and you and your dr can take it from there. Good luck.

No, that is really helpful. It helps to know that you found out what the issue was in the end..

How are you getting on with it all now? Do you have a date for the surgery yet?

I hope it all goes well for you lovely.

I don't have a surgery date yet - my first appointment is next week to see the gyny specialist and she will put me on the waitlist for the op. That could take a few months. Not sure where you are, but in nz the process is quite slow even for 'urgent' things. I'd be interested to hear the results of your scan.

Hey,

I have had my scan and it showed that I have a 5cm large cyst on my right ovary - which would explain the discomfort! I've been booked in for another scan in 3 to 4 months to see if it's getting smaller or not..

The doctor at the sexual health clinic has also refereed me to a gynecologist for a laparoscopy, so I'm just waiting to hear back from that.

How are you getting on? Have you heard anything with regards to the op?

I finally got to see the Consultant on the 2nd and she preferred me to have the hysterectomy done via laparoscopy by a different Specialist and apparently that was going to take at least 4 months before I even got a consultation with him! But I've already received an appointment for 3 weeks time so I'm rapt with that!

Glad they found your cyst! How long do you think you'll have to wait to get the lap surgery? I really hope it doesn't burst in the meantime as that is excruciating!!! 😖.
