hey guys! i’m 22 years old and living with PCD situs inversus. one of the many side effects of PCD, or whatever you wanna call it, is hearing loss when you get older. As i’m getting older i feel i’m hearing less. I don’t know if I’m being paranoid or not but ever since i’ve read about this which was almost 2 years back, I’m getting more conscious. I feel i hear more from my right ear and less from the other one. I also can’t put volume too high as it irritates my ears. Pls help me or let me know if this is natural or not.

Hi, i have sadly noticed my hearing is getting worse to, i now rely on hearing aids frequently, i wonder if its the time of year ans due to more colds, they are also more waxy but i guess thats due to wearing my hearinf aids more?? I have also been struggling more with tinnitus, i am not really sure what's happening to my ears!

Hi Chrissie,

Just a quick addition to my reply to Anjal. In terms of tinnitus, this is something you could speak to ENT about. Sometimes this can be caused from receiving a type of IV antibiotics that belong to a group called Aminoglycosides, so I would mention this to a doctor if you ever need IVs.

I frequently get tinnitus but find I can control it if I try to hum some music or think of a tune (I know that sounds odd but someone told me this years ago and it has worked for me a lot of the time).

Best of luck!

Hi Anjal,

Depending on where you live, you should try to see an ENT specialist (ears nose and throat). Hearing loss can be more problematic for some than others, particularly if you have had lots of untreated infections.

One option you could try is to use Neilmed Saline Nasal Douches which is a bottle that allows you to flush saline through your sinuses. It should help clear congestion but may also help your ears if they are quite blocked (it’s all connected).

If you are UK based, definitely ask to be referred to ENT to be checked out.

I went to the doctors yesterday and have drops to use with anti inflammatory and antibiotics in, in both ears as there is a bit of redness and swelling, hopefully it will do the trick!
