Just pondering the above. I'm not due until July but was thinking about birth the other day and wondered if anyone here who's had a baby has had a c section and how physio was after it, drainage/breathing exercising and coughing with a c section wound. It'

Hi Emma congratulations! I had a C- Section with my daughter, 15 years ago now. The CF team organized for my epidural to be kept in for 48hrs to enable to clear my lungs pain free which I was incredibly grateful for. The Physios have very good techniques to help manage your pain on coughing, holding onto a pillow against your wound really helps. I would really encourage to try and keep your chest as clear as possible especially when your lower lobes will have been squashed in the later stages of your pregnancypregnancy. Really hope all goes well. Dianne

Hi Emma I never had a c section when I was pregnant but I had my appendix removed so I had a huge wound on my lower abdomen. (I mean huge).... My physio therapists worked with me to clear chest mucus. It was tricky and not as effective, but I was able to clear most of the mucus out of my airways.

I keep activate by walking around a lot too even thru the pain. I hope you have access to a Physio therapists if needed as these people are great and provide wonderful understanding.

Hi, sorry I didn't realise there had been a reply. I do have access to a physio and I've been given an acapella recently to try. I'm really hoping to get baby out the old fashioned way, the thought of coughing and physio whIle recovering from a C Section makes me shudder. I'm not great with pain!

Hi Emma_82,

I’m due around the same time as you. I also have the same concerns, and I don’t really feel like there’s a good plan in place yet. I hope all goes well for you.

Emma and corki Please keep me update when the babies are due as I love to hear about babies being born especially from people who have PCD.

Sleep as much as possible as you get bigger because getting enough sleep is important for you and the growing baby. It will prevent our bodies from becoming run down and lessen the chances of getting lung infections. Also plenty of hand washing and keeping a distance from people who seem sick with a respiratory infections.

Thank you fcfilice, will do! Starting to feel the breathlessness kicking in now. I finish work at the end of this month so I can really rest and concentrate on physio and have a bit more energy for swimming! Other than that all good :)

Hi Corki, I know what you mean, I'm a bit nervous about it all but theres only so much planning we can I guess. Just really hoping I can have a natural birth, because I'm worried about recovery from c section. I should probably discuss with my consultant. I don't have another appointment booked in with him now before baby arrives but he's said if I need anything just to ring and he'll see me asap.
