I came off the URSO because of my weight. I managed to lose some but then couldn't lose anymore. My bloods showed an elevation so went back on the URSO. Have now put on a stone. Cant seem to lose weight whatever I do :(

This sounds like me yet it doesn't say it's a side effect does it xx

I've gained weight too - really not happy considering stopping Uro as I had no symptoms before starting and now feel its affecting my life xxxx

Hi

I haven't gain any weight with urso... Strange how it effects people so differently. I know I try to exercise regularly as at my age - 51, it all goes round my middle, also I hope it will help with bone strength, as osteoporosis is something else we need to consider.

Is it worth talking to a nutritionist?

Take care

Lou

I was diagnosed in 2005 and did put weight on. I started moving and over 2007-9 managed to lose nearly two stone. It takes so much longer with PBC and the full fat Questran and Urso don't help.I haven't been walking so much over the last 12 months and have put on just over half a stone even with eating less. Walking regularly (when you can) is the best way of keeping the weight down.

It might be an idea to see a dietician, as louf suggested. One of the symptoms I had before diagnosis, in Feb last year, was weight loss. I too put on weight when I first started on Urso. However, I decided to see a dietician a couple of months ago (for various reasons) and was put on a low fat high calcium diet, I have lost weight without even trying. As many others have already said, PBC affects everyone differently, but I for one will not stop taking Urso as I have felt loads better since being on it, my blood results have also made a signnificant recovery.

I've put on about a stone since I've been on URSO and have tried numerous diets since without success. Before I started on URSO I had been on a slimming world diet following the mostly 'green' diet which includes pasta, rice, potato and had managed to lose 18 pounds. I continued to eat the same foods after going on URSO but my weight kept on creeping up. I tried the 'red' for a while but could not get on with that. Have tried a few different ones since but without success.

I put on weight with urso but have it under control now with 'the alternate day diet'. You fast every other day and then maintain by fasting 2 days a week. For my fasting days I have 3 Cambridge meals which have all the nutrients you need and I feel so much better. I spoke to my consultant about it and he said it was fine to do and would probably help the liver.

I too have put on weight since starting URSO in May 2012- about 20 lbs to date. I had initially lost 80 lbs (been obese for quite a few years) when I started working out 5 + times a week in July 2010. Then, I had cholescystectomy Aug 2011, because of elevated liver enzymes and porcelain gall bladder, which they thought was cancerous at first. That came out negative. In Nov 2011, liver enzymes elevated even further and finally they did further tests and discovered that my bile ducts had issues. My GI doc, in Jan 2012 using ERCP - put in stents and cleaned out my bile ducts and had a liver biopsy, which showed Stage 3 fibrosis and NAFLD . I was diagnosed with PBC - asymptomatic (because AMA/ANA are negative) a couple of months later one stent came out and the other was replaced with a new one. That one came out in June and I was put on URSO. I take it 3x's per day with my meals. I have had only a few episodes of itching all over....but that seems to subside. In Nov, AST/ALT were normal and ALP was getting there. I have a follow-up appointment on May 2nd and bloodwork I am going to do next week. Praying that my liver enzymes are all normal. I do maintain a very positive outlook daily, as I feel that helps. I eat healthy, take only URSO, a vitamin supplement and probiotic daily. I still work out, drink healthy, homemade smoothies, but still cannot lose weight. I am modifying things slightly this week - I hope it helps. I do work full-time 5 days a week. I will keep you posted. I sympathize with all of you. Keep the faith.

I put my weight gain down to the steroids. I started URSO when I was on the steroids so its difficult to say. I hope they look into this as a possibility though.

I had a weight gain, but my thyroid was sluggish, so that explains it. I have since gone on a very healthy way of eating and watch my calories, and make certain my diet is balanced. I was told to get down to 150 from 175 by my GP. I am now 148 lbs. At only 5 ft tall, I still could lose a few more pounds, It has taken ten months to lose the weight.

A recent ultra sound of the abdomen shows my only issue is a mild fatty liver. All my organs look good. My recent blood test show everything is either normal or close to normal. I will just continue what I am doing. Healthy eating, exercise, and Urso and milk thistle. I am 66 and was diagnosed 11 months ago. Stay focused on healing and make good choices that support being and staying perfectly healthy. Best regards, Judi

I have gained 20 lbs

. Almost everything I ate made me sick (GI problems). I have been on URSO for a year and not everything makes me sick to eat anymore. So I am 'holding' just about everything I eat. I just have to remember not to over do it on favorites, because too much will make me sick in my guts like the old days.
