Hello - Does this condition, PBC, usually raise your inflammatory markers, that is, ESR and CRP? Many thanks.

My ESR and CRP have been raised since I first started getting tested. I know that one of them has normalised since I started on the Ursofalk but I can't remember which one. I had bloods done yesterday, when I get the results back, I will let you know if they're both back to normal yet

Thanks SC. So it would be normal to have a raised ESR and CRP with untreated PBC. and unusual to have a normal CRP and ESR?

Hi Sorchajane,

I was only diagnosed with PBC last week.

My inflammation markers have been very high for over a year and I have such terrible pain in my joints that the doctor thought I had arthritis but they have ruled that out and all other possible causes but they then tested me for PBC because of some of the other symptoms I told them about and it came back positive. But I do know that it was because of the high CRP and ESR readings that made them look at this condition.

Hope that makes sense and helps you.

Hello from Australia! What a great site this is. There's nothing equivalent in Aus so i hope you don't mind if i join you.

I've had elevated ESR & CRP for many years, but six months ago this was accompanied by a +ve ANA (antineuclea antibodies - unspecified speckled) l was referred to a rheumatologist who did many more tests, one of which was AMA (antimitichondrial antibodie) this was apparently diagnostic of PBC. So l was then referred to a GI specialist who specialises in biliary diseases. Subsequently a liver biopsy confirmed this in the last month.

The elevated ESR CRP were only picked up on a routine annual blood screen which i have been having for treatments for osteoarthritis of my spine and chronic pain which is managed by a specialist pain clinic here in Adelaide South Australia.

One of the worst aspects has been, on the occasions I've had to go off antiinflammatories, after 1 - 3 weeks l have developed the most severe migratory arthritis, which leaves me quite incapacitated and is only relieved by recommencing the antiinflammatories again. Ive be told this is part of it, and in part, explains the elevated inflammatory markers.

After all the results and specialist appointments were finalized, when l next saw my GP she made the comment that "at least it's not all in your head"

Mmmm, l never thought it was but l suspect she did!!

Sorry if I've hijacked your queries. I think I've got a lot on my chest and should start my own thread.

Cheers, Dorothy

My ESR and CRP have been elevated since before I was diagnosed. Even on urso they are still going up. Not sure if it is anything to do with the PBC or not. My lower arms, wrists, hands and fingers are now all swollen so it could be related to that.
