Fungal nail treatment

I have what I think is a fungal nail infection in one of my fingernails. I am reluctant to take yet more oral medication due to the state of my liver. Anyone found anything else that gets rid of it?

Obviously there can be a whole range of fungi that cause this. One very simple trick in Romania, seen to have worked in many cases, is to wrap the finger nail, during several nights (even over a week) with a tampon with VINEGAR- best if you have it there, apple vinegar (with added honey, as we have it here). Vinegar is a powerful antibacterial substance, used in household cleaning as well (for ex spraying the carpet with vinegar mixed with water, after dusting it, helps keep the colours bright, freshens the air in the room as the typical smell will soon be gone, and is a light disinfectant as well).

Of course, the nail needs to be wound-free, so no open access to blood (as it will hurt like £$%£$%, nothing else :) ).

This is the most popular domestic nail fungal treatment and it can work in many cases. Be careful to have a good hygiene of the place, use one separate towel for that place.

If this doesn't help, I would suggest go see a doctor, but try a local cream treatment first. Mind that antimycotic (against fungi)internal treatments are generally not very liver-friendly. Good luck, let me know how it goes if you wish.

Yes as cristina says, vinegar is apparently an anti-fungal as is honey.

I actually add a bit of cider vinegar with Epsom Salts to the bath at intervals to try to alleviate the itch I get at night-time.

Yes I agree with you, if you can avoid any pharmaceuticals as the ingested ones are probably causing more of a strain to what could be now a compromised liver situation.

I , too, have had nail fungus for many many years. I occasionally ask my hepatologist if there is any safe medication to take topically or orally...he always has said no. These products, like was mentioned, are very hard on the liver. I believe it's something we need to live with for the most part. I hope that vinegar solution helps... let us know.
