Hello philippastcarin.

There seems to be a bit of confusion regards staging in PBC and I must admit I myself don't quite get that bit. I did see some video in 2010 online by an American doctor whose patient was Emily who was informed she had PBC. She was advised to have a biopsy and then it was said she was at Stage 2 but it was then explained that staging is normally given one step further for some reason.

I filled out a survey online later last yr from the British Liver Trust (I am in England) and it did ask what condition one had and when you clicked on PBC it did give what were apparently stages of PBC. There was 'inflammation', 'fatty liver' and then 'cirrhosis'.

Personally I put these out of my mind as I'm not bothered about these 'stages' at all. I was diagnosed late 2010 and just take it as it goes. My results are much better than they ever were prior to starting urso Dec 2010 and given prior to diagnose it was said my liver looked pretty much normal on a scan with just 'a bit of inflammation' from the blood tests I personally would not agree to a biopsy if ever one was offered to tell me more. I think nowadays it can be pretty accurate with a scan and the bloods.

Thanks for the information. i was diagnosed in 2008 i don't take any interest in the blood tests as yet, but I may do from now on.(going for more on Monday) my liver scans looks like a bag of gravel, it was a scan that really started doctors taking me seriously but I don't really worry about pbc at all, maybe its time, as I now have osteoporosis and I am described as pre-diabetic. I think maybe I'm a little to relaxed about things. but I'm determined to get on with things as best I can baring extra sleep in the afternoon, but at 52 years of age and taken early retirement I would probably be doing that anyway. so a leaf from your book I think. thanks once again. Philip.
