Hi everyone. I was curious if any of you guys suffer from steatorrhea? I have been experiencing this for two months now, in which it has caused me to be malnourished and very ill. I would love to know if anyone else has this and what can be done about it?

Its where the bile acids dont enter the gallbladder and so it doesnt enter the intestine to break down fats. So u pass stools that literally look like u poured vegetable oil in it. It eventually causes u to become malnourished. Its caused by cholestasis, and OBC is a cholestatic liver disease.

Hi. When I was first diagnosed I had fatty stools. I was found to have Colitis, Coeliac Disease and PCB. My body was not absorbing anything I ate and I became very anaemic. I would have done anything to feel better, so I stuck to a very strict Gluten free diet and ate as much unprocessed food as I could. It took over a year for it all to calm down, but I have not had Colitis since and on the whole I keep quite well. This was in 1997. I'm not suggesting you have Coeliac Disease but it made me aware of what I was eating and I believe my diet has also helped my PBC.

I hope this helps, and by the way I have become a pretty good cook too!

Thanks, I have this steatorrhea because I have cholestasis. I dont have any intestinal disorder. From what Ive read cholestasis is a reason to develop this disorder. I've lost a little bit of weight, and I've noticed that I can eat large amounts of food and not gain any weight. I see my liver Dr on the 30th, so Im not sure what he can do about this.

Yes, I don't have this specifically but I find I can eat a lot (it's all mainly low fat. Food, but a lot) and not gain a lb. I was pleasantly surprised even after being on steroids for months. Back to my liver dr today and my bloods all improving though still off the scale, nevertheless they seem pleased. Progress. Hope everything works out for you Amandarosas, keep us up to date. ValH, I was a very anaemic when I ended up in hospital and they thought maybe coeliac disease too but tests didn't prove it. After blood transfusion and lots of iron I've replenished my stocks and tomorrow will be the first day I will take no iron tablet since May, really hope I can keep it up with diet alone. Thought about gluten free myself, may try to even cut down but I do love my bread. Have to agree the less processed the better for me anyhow, take care.

Damn sounds like you were really sick. I have been fine until the last two months. I'm so fatigued its crippling. Of course this stupid steatorrhea is making me really sick too. My liver enzymes go up and down all the time. My ALP has never been higher than 112, but my most recent blood work showing moderate elevations of AST and ALT.

My last blood work was

AST 69

ALT 91

ALP 112

My bilirubin is ALMOST high, its at the very upper limit of normal. My albumin always stays around 4.0. My platelet count is going down each time they draw my blood, which I was told this happens in liver disease. I have about half of my liver covered in stage 3 Fibrosis, maybe even Cirrhosis. Im gonna have a laporoscopy in a couple weeks so they can go in and remove a piece of my liver to assess the damage bc the liver biopsy was from a healthy part of my liver only showing cholestasis. Im assuming that my entire liver has cholestasis at this point.

Steatorrhoea is the presence of undigested fat in the stools. A sign of pancreatic deficiency and usually curring with people who have Coeliac disease. I wouln't worry you need to speak to your G.P. and of course coeliac disease is an antiaummue condition.

Yes, and my Dr told me its bc of my liver. I have cholestasis, so I have very little or NO bile salts in my intestines. I was just curious if anyone else who has PBC have experienced this. Its not just for people with intestinal disorders, its very common in people with cholestasis.

Hi!

I have IBS type symptoms and have been prescribed Questran for this - it works really well gettinrid of the abdominal pain and stopping the diarrhoea. This may help any of you with similar problems.

Regards x
