Don't know about you guys but I have trouble with my weight. I have no appetite and some days I seem to have lost weight but on others I have no appetite but eat a lot. I get late night munchies...I seem to crave carbs and cannot tolerate protein, gives me terrible indigestion and settles heavy on my stomach, I also seem to have developed a problem when I eat bread or pasta as well. does anyone else have this kind of problem.

I have battled withmy weight for over 20 years...and even with AIH and PBC I still have issues.....any suggestions.....

Thanks conniefused

Hi it's not very nice to be uncomfortable after eating anything. I have been researching and I must say that I find gluten seems to pop up a lot when it comes to digestion issues. Gluten is in a lot of foods, sometimes hidden.

I have decided to go gluten free for a few weeks to see if it helps...also vegan. I know it may sound restricting, but if you cook from fresh as I usually do you can eat normal. It is easier if you are not vegetarian and will eat a normal meal of meat, fish, vegetables.

I think I have to at least try. It's really odd..I have no appetite, but I make myself eat because our bodies need fuel... once I do eat....I have trouble with digestion, also makes me want to eat more and crave carbs......don't know why but will run this by my consultant on 5th July.

Hi I have a problem with bread and carbs. Giving up bread was definitely the right thing for me, I feel so much better for it. Also I have goats milk instead of cows milk which makes a bit difference as well. I avoid wheat as much as I can. Saying that I do have days when I feel sick all day, then I eat yoghurt and I make milkshakes with fruit in, as liquidised food seems easier to cope with. I dont have ceoliacs disease so consultant says go with what your body tells you.

Hope the gluten free works for you, stick to simply foods and your digestion might thank you for it.

Hi val02

Thank you for your reply....I also have sick days where I can have only cuppasoup, smoothies, milkshake or fruit juice, on occasion only water. I don't know if I am celiac, but I am sure I did not have the problem with bread until after I was diagnosed with PBC/AIH....I will ask to be tested for celiac....because I simply have to find out why my digestion is so crap.....

I will leave bread out all together..there are alternatives to use in place of bread for example crisp breads, rice crackers......

Thank you again

I actually don't have what I would call a 'problem'. I've noticed since I got the itch 8mths prior to diagnose in Dec 2010 I had lost a bit of weight (around half stone) what I put down to naturally as I had a job where Mon-Fri I was running round a building for 4hrs and up and down staircases in that time (domestic work).

I have since noticed that if I have a day where I don't actually feel hungry and don't overly-eat I can get up the next day and have dropped half a stone in weight which can then go back on in the space of 24hrs.

I know these days and maybe because I am in my late 40's now, I don't tend to eat to a full up capacity as I find I'm far better just eating what I feel like at mealtimes and I often leave some on the plate.

I had pretty good blood results last mth as the prev 2 over 6mths had taken a bit of a dip in the wrong sense. I steer clear of additives in food (esp MSG) if I can and also try to eat only a little fat but I think it's fair to say I did that prior to PBC rearing its head anyway. I also try to avoid too much salt also, again that is something I had been doing prior.

I also did read once that coffee can be good for the liver but not in great capacities so I just enjoy a cup in the morning and one around teatime.

I've been on urso for about 3 months and i've put on half a stone. don't know if its the tablets or if i'm a bit stressed and eating the wrong things. Has anybody else put on weight since taking urso?
