So so sorry you are in the hospital. Praying you are not in pain and the doctors are treating you well.
Not sure about the connection to PBC other that to say that I have been in the hospital 3 times in the past year and a half and each time have had mild pancreatitis in addition to ...."we don't know" ....."and by the way you have PBC"

I had a problem with my pancreas just after Christmas and I was in so much pain. My GP told me my amalyze level was too high also liver function. I also have PBC so I'm convinced the two are linked. Hope this is of help to you.

Can you describe your pain?
From the little I know (also having experienced an acute pancreatitis crisis of a friend's), from the patient's point of view (that is, what you can do/ control about it) both pancreatitis and PBC are in many aspects "controlable" through your diet and life style. That it, thoe can help or damage a lot. Which is good news because we do have control over what we eat, drink, if we smoke...
When my guy had the pancreatitis, what doctors did was mainly to leave the pancreas calm down - he ate/ drank nothing for a whole week, only IVs with some nutrients and very few medicines.
I am home now after 11 days in hospital. My amylase levels increased dramatically and the pain was insufferable after 5 days of being in hospital, normal / light diet no alchohol and i do not smoke. This has baffled the doctors, i underwent an MRI scan that showed cysts on my pancreas and also fluid surrounding it they said this would disapear in time. I am still under review and hope to know more next week when i visit my liver specialist.
Hi Kosy2 the only reason i had my gall bladder removed was because they said i was suffering repeated pancreatitis because of it!! I had got 2 stones that were of medium size but this latest bout of pancreatitis has baffled them, they are now convinced that i am an alcholic. I have had a couple of small glasses of wine with meals 3 to 4 times per week but nothing in excess of that, the doctors said that should be ok as long as it was no more. I am now tea total just to prove a point. Yes i am still in pain 3 weeks on, sometimes the pain gets really unbearable so that i don't get a wink of sleep but i am due to visit my consultant on Weds in hope of some answers and maybe treatment.
Per chance have you taken anything with codeine, it gives me pancreatic pain.
It's the worst pain btw I feel for you xxx

Sorry, i have been quite busy these past few months. My consultant has arranged for me to undertake another test EUS which is a combination of ultrasound and endoscopy that looks into things in more detail this will be conducted on Thurday but i must say i feel quite a bit better than a few weeks ago but the dreaded itch seems to be coming back grrrrrrrrrrr. X
Had EUS today and everything seems fine, no stones and no narrowing of the bile ducts.
Hi Trish. So sorry you're ill. I was also hospitalized with acute Pancreatitis a couple months ago. After 3 days on just fluids and morphine (that was nice, lol) they sent me home. Just last week symptoms seemed to be happening again. Finally my gastro guy sent me for an endoscopy (not the usual one but the one where they can go down and remove a stone if they see it). So just this past Weds. had that done and of course 2 large stones were in the bile duct which they removed. I'm told there's stones in the gall bladder too and that the procedure itself could cause another bout of pancreatitis - 10% chance. Trying to be positive and say ok, 90% chance I won't get it again, but I'm scared. He took a biopsy too. Meanwhile I'm supposed to have knee replacement in January but I'm thinking I need to wait and see about all the gastro stuff. It's so stressful. But you asked about PBC. What is that??? I hope you feel better real soon. I know what you are going through.
What is PBC? I've had chronic pancreatitis for many yeats. First acute attack then became chronic. I had one doc who said I could continue to have a cocktail one in awhile. Wrong!!! I'm in pain 24/7, can't sit but walk around like a swimming shark. Now I'm almost 70 so my bones are not happy with me. Also have loads of related problems. My pancreas has been almost completely destroyed by itself causing diabetes, Exocrine pancreas insufficiency, malnutrition etc. etc. Now the new political choice to limit pain control is killing me. Sometimes life gives you lemons. I've also had lots oflemonade so.....it is what it is. I know a lot about this disease so if any of you have questions, I an NOT a doctor, just a researcher of my own health problems, ask. I'll do my best to give you an answer that I believe to be corrrect.
Hi. I’ve some questions. I’m having rather severe pain that appears to be both in my back and through just under my breast bone slightly to the right. Both places at once.
Doctors are queuing pancreatitis but my lipase is only a few points above normal. They think if it was pancreatitis I would also be feverish and have a higher lipase.
It comes really bad in middle of night. Also if I do not eat it improves. Does that sound like what you are experiencing?
I have PBC . Not being treated as I’m allergic to URSO.
Hi jean was just wondering how you got on with your pain . I was wondering what pbc is as well .
I have constant pain under right rib cage .and round my back . All my bloods are clear and so was ultra sound .
PBC is Primary Biliary Cholangitis an autoimmune disease in which our immune system attacks the bile ducts. Currently, I’m almost pain free. Seems like whatever was causing it has subsided for the moment. My ALP is up and so is my bilirubin but only slightly at the moment. I’m still thinking my pain is from the formation of liver stones which I have had in past.
Thanks for that Jean . I still have pain in right side .its like a stabbing pain . I can’t get an answer to it at all . Have you ever had pancreatise at all ?
Yes I’ve had it twice. Pain, fever and nausea. My white blood cell count went very high as did the lipase. So that usually is the markers.
Hi Jean this is the trouble no fever bloods all ok no sickness not sore when I eat . But the nipping under my rib is so bad . Is the pain very bad with it . ?
Yes pancreatitis is very painful. Requires narcotic
S usually. Both times I was hospitalized and put on IV fluids.
Jean I am a pest but can you tell me where the pain was . I am so worried about this pain .the funny thing is it does not bother me at night at all , did yours?
Yes. Mine seemed quite severe especially at night. Have the doctors considered yours to be maybe originating in abdomen wall rather than in organs. I’ve heard of people developing this type of pain from something happening in muscle tissues. So when inactive it subsides. Have you tried heat like a heating pad?

Yes but as on I was diagnosed I was Iv then just fluids to bowel relax
Have you had an ultrasound done to see if it's not your gallbladder? My pain is different happens at worst after I eat....anything. I've been in hospital for Acu te Pancreatitis years ago and now it's just chronic. Constant and nasty. I sure hope you get some answers. Your symptoms sound painful and are interrupting much needed sleep. Let me know what your doc's say. The gallbladder is more to the right and the pancreas is in the middle or left just at the waistline, or a bit higher. I also have gallbladder sludge which my doc says is "uncomfortable' but nothing to be concerned about. I disagree. Read about gallbladder disease and see if this doesn't fit your symptoms more than CP. I hope you're feeling better.
I had my gallbladder out 48 years ago a month after the birth of my son. So not that. Yes eating does make this pain much worse.
