elevated ALP ALT AST

hi there everyone! im 9 year post liver transplant and 6 years ago i was diagnosed with PTLD and recurrent PBC was put on ursodiol which within a few months lowered levels almost to normal but unfortunately my most recent blood work showed ALP of 196 and ALT of44 AST 44 all very elevated. due to gastrointestinal issues i was off urso for 2 week but went back on it a week before my recent blood work. my question is could the 2 weeks made such a difference or is urso not working anymore? or could my gastrointestinal problem have caused it? im so worried i cant function. i wont be able to speak with my coordinator till next week. has anyone experienced this?

I have had one endoscopy in April...seeing another GI MD for second opinion...Still having symptoms similar to you.Swallowing issues continue...at last endoscopy MD said I have tight ring upper esophagus.

She attempted to stretch...got me bleeding.

So we will see going forward.

Thanks for reply.

Oh wow! That’s scary. I also have trouble swallowing sometimes and feel like there’s something stuck all the time. I’m also not comfortable with the endoscopy but I have no choice I guess. Are you a transplant recipient?

No...I was diagnosed in 2013...but too old to be considered for transplant (75).I began with thyroid Graves Disease in 2003.

My mom had autoimmune issues.

I am having to crush all my meds due to swallowing issues.

Urso is horrid crushed.

Thanks again for reply.

Sorry to hear that. And I didn’t think age was an issue my understanding was that as long as patient has no serious other medical issues and all other organs are normal then they would qualify. I wish you all the best and good luck. ❤️

There are so many younger people that are waiting for a liver...thus I would never want them to be without.I will have to check into age limit...I had remembered at age 70.

Have you tried the liquid form of URSO, it might be worth looking into. If they do it in the US.

I thought this app was being retired effective today. My email said we had to go online now to be active.

I’ve never been off urso so I can’t speak to that. It could make a difference though. I was diagnosed in 2014 stage 2 and seem to be stable in numbers but starting to have more issues. I was told that liver levels can be pretty variable. I also was told that ast and alt could be a sign of other things and albumin and bilirubin are what they really watch. Good luck.

My last lab work has been elevated. My hepatologist says that is not uncommon .I’ve been on Urso for five years now .The best my Alt Phas has been was 147. It’s now up to 216, The highest it’s ever been. The hepatologist is not concerned. We will repeat the labs in three months. There is no rhyme or reason to how or why they fluctuate for me. My labs will never be normal. Have you been on prednisone? That will raise your labs as well.

Thanks for reply. I was on prednisone right after transplant for a while but that was 9 yrs ago. Are you a transplant recipient?

No I am not. I was diagnosed 5 years. Still holding my own. I just know that when I’ve been on prednisone for one reason or another. It really elevates my liver enzymes
