Antibiotics and blood test

Hello friends, I am with urso since my diagnosis 2 years ago ,have my blood test each 3 months and all was slowly being OK but in my last test my liver enzymes are rising up dramatically, also the Alcaline P and bilirrubin are slighty elevated. I had 1 month ago dental surgery and needed Amoxicillin-clavulanic for 10 days. May the antibiotics cause a change in the enzimes? Anyone with the same experience? Thanks.

Hi

I haven't had my LFT labs taken close to a time I was on heavy duty antibiotics... but I don't think it's that far fetched to think that they could cause increase.

I hope your dr. can give you some guidance, feedback.

take care.

I've taken the same antibiotic for dental reasons two or three times since I started on urso in 2016. I can't say they caused the elevation of the ALP or other tests. However, I've seen my ALP going up and down before, at times it fluctuates, which is normal. You should check with your doctor to be sure.

Best!

I’ve had my tests done while on antibiotics, it didn’t seem to make any difference. But everyone can have different experience.

Thank you, friends. I will ask my Internist as soon as possible. The blood test and control of my PBC has been done by an hepatologist but I don't have the appointment until may. I hope that the cause is the medication and not another.

Hi Germanic, I could in no way say with surety that amoxicillin was responsible for the return of my Pbc post transplant, but I sure have suspicions. I am speaking of my personal experience after firstly finishing a course of nitruferantoin for a urinary infection followed almost immediately a day after completion by a course of amoxicillin. It appears my new liver had no signs of recurring pbc up until then. After which many symptoms of pbc reoccurred. ie, raised ALP and sjornes and joint pain. I believe there are some ideas about links but I am just looking out for further links as nothing even vaguely certain. I hope your enzymes return to a more normal level very soon, good luck with everything.

Hi Germania, I’ve taken antibiotics and not had a rise in liver enzymes. However like others, I’ve had fluctuations especially in ALP that I never understood - and this seems common. Keep monitoring because it takes time for a pattern to emerge, and I hope things will become clearer soon.

Let us know how you get on!

Best wishes

Thank you, I went today to my dr. to ask and she said that she can't confirm that is the antibiotic and I must wait for the next blood test with my hepatologist to see if the things are better. Must wait 3 months, let's see .
