Am I rejecting Urso

Jennyhadenough profile image
37 Replies

i Have been taking Urso for 2 years. I was doing well for the two years.

Two weeks ago I started with diarrhea and bad cramps. I went to the emergency room Sunday and after CT Scan I was admitted for colitis. It’s mild but all stool and blood work came back negative for everything.

I’m being given iv antibiotics and flagyl with probiotics.

Has anyone ever rejected Urso after 2 years because of stomach/digestive issues

Jenny,

I'm so sorry your having these issues. Could it just be a bug or even another AI surfacing?

The hospital called in infectious disease control when I got admitted, because I am immune suppressive. All test so far are negative. There are a few negative. All blood is negative. My hep is out for 10 days.

Hi Jen,

I hear you when you say “had enough” believe me, been there done that!!!

Jen, possible gallstone? Having PCB, it is not unusual to have stone and slough in Gallbladdet (very painful).

My ct scan showed colitis and my gall bladder is fine. Urso is the only medication that is saving my liver. They are trying to find what caused it and why it won’t get better

Actually, URSO will prevent gallstones.

Sun.

How are you feeling today?

I feel ok. I just had dinner so let’s hope that I can properly digest it. I couldn’t hold a glass of water when I got here

Jen,

Ginger tea is great for nausea. CBD and Cannabis Oil really helps me “immediately”. You’ll find here on the forum that I’m a big advocate for Cannabis, and I have my degree in the healthfield.

I have tried everything when it comes to Western Medicine, everything I have tried has horrific side effects for me.

Cannabis is the scared plant, it has been around for 100’s of years, use to be used for medicinal purposes. A good CBD and Cannabis Oil is a wonderful combo, for healing, plus helps with symptoms, and without side effects.

Hi I’ve had no luck with this because it makes me ver negative......is there a better product that does not do this do you know .?

SunnyXXOO profile image
SunnyXXOO in reply to Vivaldii

Yes, Integrative/functional medicine.

Have to have open your mind. It works but take time. I’m very comfortable, scans and number are good for me. I also have Cannabis License, only use Cannabis oil + CBD at night. Best combo Cannabis and CBD!! Will stop symptoms in there tracks, immediately.

Sorry to read this, I have been on URSO since 2006 with overall few problems. I guess it is heartening to find all the blood and stool work came back negative but of course it does not give you an answer. URSO is now not the only treatment as Ocaliva is now available and in some places the doctors are looking at Bezfibrate as an alternative and research into an anti depressant Mirtazipan has shown some interesting results so even if your body were rejecting the URSO there are alternatives. I am hoping for you though that it has just been a case of a bug, albeit a serious one, or even colitis caught early rather than further problems with URSO.

best wishes

are you taking anything else... painkillers etc..??

Jennyhadenough profile image
Jennyhadenough in reply to cazer

No, I don’t have to take pain medication as of yet.

I'm sorry that you are suffering this. Just a thought - Is it possible that you are Vit K defiicient? It is often the case if you have colitis. There's sure to be something more recent but https//doi.org/10.1093/ajcn/41.3639

I have had gastro issues that have grumbled on and I thought due to colon surgery. I tried Vit K2-Mk7 after the recent post from gwillistexas and the response/thread. In just a few days there is a big improvement. I hope that this resolves for you soon, and you are still ok with urso.

I was diagnosed with colitis before my PBC. Some colitis can be autoimmune so it may be a coincidence versus a side effect of URSO.

Jennyhadenough profile image
Jennyhadenough in reply to llisabet

It’s not autoimmune. I specifically asked. Do you know what blood test are done to determine autoimmune colitis

dianekjs profile image
dianekjs in reply to Jennyhadenough

Unless they have evidence that it’s definitely something else, it’s nearly impossible to rule out autoimmune disorders. Odd that they would say that without a firm diagnosis. Why do you think the urso is responsible for your new symptoms after being on it for a long time without issues? The new problems could well be unrelated.

Jennyhadenough profile image
Jennyhadenough in reply to dianekjs

I don’t believe that it’s my Urso or another medication anymore. I have to wait for the GI Dr. apt.

Jennyhadenough profile image
Jennyhadenough in reply to llisabet

Actually we don’t know what caused it. The nurse that called it infectious, shouldn’t of called it that. We will find out soon with the colonoscopy

I too had IBS and diverticulitis for years before being diagnosed PBC.

LorraineLouise profile image

The Urso has seemed to help my IBS

llisabet profile image
llisabet

I had a colonoscopy and biopsy which led to diagnosis of lymphocytic colitis which may be autoimmune.

Good morning Jen, Im clear in my head with Probiotics that’s great, but curious to why prescribed antibiotics. If all test show (-) why Antibiotics? Flagyl, heavy duty!

Also curious of Urso caused ALT to elevate?

My blood work is fine. My GI dr ordered powerful antibiotics and probiotics. I had too also take diflucan to make sure that I didn’t get yeast.

Just to clarify, when you say "reject" do you mean non-responding, or do you mean you may decline to take? I wouldn't stop taking Urso without evidence that I needed to. It may not be as effective when stopped for a period of time then restarted. I don't know what length of time, but someone here will know. Robert can advise for sure.

I am sorry. I meant is it no longer working for me. Since this post I learned that there may be a new problem of some kind that is not medication related.

in reply to Jennyhadenough

I thought that was what you meant, but just wanted to be sure! I hope the new problem is soon sorted for you..best wishes for that too.

I also suffer from UC & was placed on Ocaliva with the Urso because I became a non responder of Urso. They'll just add to the meds.

Stay strong

Hi shulsey. How are you. Congratulations with your granddaughter. She is beautiful. I am already taking 100 mgs of azathioprine and I am down to 5 mgs of prednisone. 1000 of Ursodiol. Going over my medical report, the test for ulcerative colitis is abnormal but my dr said that it is not uc. I am having so much stress, the stomach issue really started after I received my letter from my liver specialist that my 2 year apt is at the end of March.

How well do you trust CT Scans over other scans

Shulsey profile image
Shulsey in reply to Jennyhadenough

It's hard to say for me which is better the CT scans or ultrasound because between both of my specialists I get all of the above testing on a regular basis.
