My New journey, living with PBC

3/19/2018 I was told I have PBC. I began taking Ursodiol on 3/20 to begin this new journey of life with PBC. I must say I am a bit scared but hopeful and glad there is a medication that my body will work with to slow the progression and give me a normal life span. I moved to St Thomas USVI and found a PCP to monitor my Type II Diabetes. Blood tests indicated elevated liver enzymes, I had my Gallbladder removed but the enzymes remained elevated. The doctor did not follow up on it so the disease was left undiagnosed and untreated until now. (We moved to Memphis, TN, 7/2107) I am in Stage 2 to 3 (of 4 Stages) and will have a MRCP Thursday to determine if /or how much damage there is. This begins a new journey of keeping track of this disease and hoping for the best.

HI PBCforJPM

It is always a bit of a shock to get the news of PBC as it is one of those diseases that is in the rare/uncommon group and for many of us it takes a while to get our diagnosis as it has been in your case. I am glad you have now found a doctor who has knowledge of PBC and is taking proper care of you.

As Ktltel has suggested the PBC Foundation website (free to join) has a compendium in the member's section which is very useful. Another source of information is the PBCers.org website and of course on here we have a wealth of personal experiences to share.

You sound very positive and from your photograph you look fabulous.

Welcome to the group.

best wishes
