Red eyes

Does anyone have trouble with their eyes. My right eye in particular gets red and watery, I find colds and ailments take too long to go away especially in winter. I rarely go to GP as I just put everything down to my PBC.

My eyes are red when I wake up but goes away as the morning goes by. But the outside corners stay a little red.

I do. I have extreme dry eyes. I use Refresh Optive during the day and a gel at night. This helps to keep my eyes lubricated.

I’m supposed to use eye drops. I was 41 when eye dr said I have chronic dry eyes. But I’m not faithful with my drops. Guess I better get with it, lol!

I had red eyes for years prior to diagnosis with PBC but put it down to eyes being dry and wearing contact lenses. I now realise that it was PBC causing the dry eyes with resulted in redness. I still have this problem and also dry mouth now.

I never had redness in my eyes until about 3 months ago. My mom had chronic dry eyes so I’ll say I got it from her.

Thank you for your replies, I will try leaving my lenses off for a while and get some eye drops for dry eyes to see how that works,

My whites are red

Mine too. When I first wake up, I told my husband I look like I’ve been on a drunk, lol!

i have dry eyes i was told it was part of autoimmune disorders and as well as dry also get one red eye i had the paper test where i think litmus paper is put just inside your eye to test for moistness i use dry eye drops but a optician told me to put a warm soaked cloth on lids it encourages the moisture/tears

I really get the "dont bother going to GP as I put everything down to PBC" the few times I have bothered it seems pointless, and any niggles I have are so irrelevant to the main issue it is just another one of those things to add to the extraordinary long list.....this is another one of those things we who have the PBC thingy all share and live with and understand as a group. It can be uplifting to share.

Can anyone remember seeing the post on eye masks on this site. I seem to remember you could microwave them to heat and then place over your eyes to soothe them. Thought I might try one out but may have got it wrong.

Hi alpha3, I was diagnosed with chronic dry eye a year ago and my optometrist gave me a bruder brand eye mask that I heat in the microwave for 25 seconds. I wear it for 10 minutes. This seems to help.

Thank you, I'll Ask my optometrist if he can provide one.

I have dry eyes, but this condition also was present years before pbc diagnosis.

Also last year I got episcleritis that just suddenly appeared. My eye felt weird in the morning but it look fine in mirror. But by 4 pm it looked like the pic in the link.

I was so scared as that never happened to me before. I scrambled to get an opthamologist to see me. Thought maybe something got into my eye. It was a Friday so I was desperate as I would worry all weekend about going blind if an opthamologist didn't examine me. (I am a worrier.)

Long story short, I beg for an appointment with a doctor I never seen before. I just said my opthamologist's office, his colleague recommended him as my doctor was not in his Manhattan office that day. So he agreed to see me if I got to his office by 5 pm.

This was already 4:30 pm when I hung up & made a mad dash to go all the way uptown. I was 15 minutes late, but I called to tell them I was walking over from train station. He was very far away from the subway.

Ugh...it was very stressful for me that day. When I told my Hepatologist about the incident, he said, you should have just called me. I would have gotten someone to see you. I can help you.

So now I, more or less go to him for every single health related thing & he gives me his advice.
