We shouldn’t follow webmd and cants trust everything they said in their site..we have to follow what our liver dr says..we all are effected differently by pbc and all here are in different stages as well..

Our goal is to make liver workless so the only way we can do that is either not eating or eating small healthy food.. may be 4 or 5 Times a day lots of veg, lean protein and good carbs..

Every thing in moderation is fine if you are in normal stage !! Let’s enjoy the life we have and let’s believe in ourselves not online stuff.. online stuff can be good for knowledge but I don’t think we can follow with out professional’s guidance..

But, I will say, as far as liver healthy foods, there’s a very close comparison in some of the on line links. So web md is not really bad. It, like others links gives an insight to many things, maybe info to research further.

I looked into that site..those are common liver nutrition u find almost every web sites... what I mean to say is pbc is different than other liver diseases and so are we..im more interested in your diet and the reaction than webmd..

Sachin1234, yes I understand that. The link I looked at was not web md & saved for reference, is one that lists all liver healthy foods and also, tells what each is good for. It lists many things that we know already, from lean meats, fruits & seasonings to spices. It was a big help to me. My dr didn’t tell me squat.

My doctor told me to just eat sensibly. There is not a special diet for pbc. & I was already doing that, maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

Right. His nurse practitioner mentioned sugar & salt. I looked up liver friendly foods. The link I read was liverdoctor. Look it up sometime & see if you don’t agree. I saved it. ❣️

we should eat what are sensible and easy for our digestion..like I have to be easy on Black papers, milk and bbq !

Anyway most of the time I always eat healthy now at least 4 days I eat super healthy..

I may be intolerance to wheat, Black papers now so this week I’m doing food allergies test 😔

I was not advised to cut out anything when I was diagnosed with PBC December 2010. Just informed to continue eating a balanced diet as I did have vitamin and mineral levels checked pre-diagnosis and also mild anaemia I have had was brought back into check after a short course of iron tablets.

I personally don't read a lot of websites as I find most are well made-up and some, they are for selling things (ie books).

I only tend to look on reputed sites. There's a good leaflet all about diet on the British Liver Trust website but it simply states to eat a balanced diet and advises the best route with a doctor if the PBC (or other liver disorders) aren't so good.

I do think having PBC now isn't a good thing to start swapping and changing the diet especially if it is something drastically (ie unless you've been informed you are gluten-intolerant for eg I personally don't think a good idea to just go all gluten-free. Several yrs ago my son was informed by the hospital doctor to cut out gluten and re-introduce. He was fine not long after investigation and advice but whilst he was doing this temporarly my family and I would eat gluten-free meals that I cooked. Can't say it made any difference whatsover to the PBC or blood checks).

It is reputed that certain foods are said to be good for certain organs (coffee is actually one that has been experimented with in the last few years and it has been found to aid liver inflammation reduction somewhat. My GGT at the last blood check (September) showed it had dropped pretty good unlike the last few years and I've not really done anything different dietarywise except I do now have 2 cups of strong coffee daily never being partial that much to coffee previously).

Me neither but recently I’m diagnosed with reactive hypoglycemia so I have to watch and portion why I eat 😔

Does your doctor always check for the ggt? Just wondering.

Yes, mine is always checked - here in Australia it's included in our 'Liver Function Tests' (LFT's).

Thank You. It is not part of the hepatic panel in US. Mine was checked when they were investigating & full comprehensive blood panels were ordered.

Letting you know, my Alk Phos was down from 179 to 148. Still little high but hopefully will continue downward. Alt was few above normal. Vit d was good👍

I liked the link, thanks. I do try to think of this as an inflammatory issue and not technically a liver issue - personally trying to eat right and avoid inflammatory foods. I have never had a sweet tooth in my life and suddenly i am crazy about cookies! Need to cut that out asap.

I think that everyone should be more cognizant about healthy eating in general. Obesity & diabetes are running rampant in the US. I have a sweet tooth as well. It is very hard. My biggest weakness is desserts. I crave it. Otherwise I love all the other aspects of eating healthy. I need to lose 10 pounds per my BMI.

I really had to shut off the sugar craves... oh and did I mention potato chips 😬? My hepatologist told me to lose the belly fat.. she said it is one of the best things we can do for liver and overall health. I lost around 16-17 pounds. I started backsliding a bit so now I'm back to being aware.

How did you manage to lose all the weight & how long did it take you?

I am very impressed with your accomplishment. As long as I don't start eating chips, I don't crave it. But if I happen to open a bag, I can't stop eating it. I have intense sugar cravings. My biggest weakness.
