Hi, member1.
Thank you for your post.
I truly feel that your clinician is the best person to ask this. Or their secretary. Clinicians have access to a wee black book that they can look up which tells them various contraindications for medicines: be that with other meds or with other conditions. A quick look in this book will help find your answer.
As it stands, no one here has enough detail to answer your question. "Is it safe to take glucosamine?"
With food? On an empty stomach? With water? Whilst drinking alcohol? Whilst pregnant? With PBC? With other autoimmune conditions? With other liver conditions?
I'm really sorry that I am highlighting this post. I think it important, for you as well as for everyone else in our community, to go to the best place for the right information. So, I do this with the intention of helping.
In this instance, I would think your clinician has the information you seek.
Yours, as ever,
Robert.
Completely support Robert's post and would just like to add, for the benefit of anyone who may pick up the post because of the word glucosamine, that here in the UK, glucosamine is NOT routinely recommended by the NHS for the treatment of osteoarthritis.
I took a form of it for 10 years on my consultant's advice but in the end stopped because NICE would not endorse it. After all the evidence was analysed it was found that glucosamine was no more effective than placebo with respect to pain and function.
