TIA or Stroke - medication ?

Has anyone had a TIA or stroke after being diagnosed with PBC and if so have you had any success in receiving statins and blood thinners that don't make you feel really ill.

I was diagnosed with PBC in 2013. A month ago I was taken to hospital with Stroke symptoms, after ct and mri scans I was told that I have had two TIA's. I have been prescribed Clopidogrel and Lipitor (Atorvastatin) my omeprazole was changed to Lansoprazole and I continue to take ADCAL and three ursofalk a day. Since the TIA I have felt really unwell. I get terrible headaches in my temples and blurred vision, I have cramps through my body and feel really weak. I feel that the symptoms are due to the statins and would really like to stop taking but I have been advised that after a TIA it would not be safe to stop.

Hello EiJo

Truth be told I think you need some expert advice on this. I have been prescribed Simvastatin for years and have no side effects but I have not had your problems. I wonder if you cannot get back to your GP perhaps an email the the Foundation or a telephone call to one of their advisers might help you to ask the right questions.

best wishes

Hello,

I was prescibed Atorvastatin for high cholesterol to prevent stroke and any other heart condition and I had to stop because it was damaging my liver more. My enzyme levels skyrocketed from 44 to 357. I was not feeling so good while I was on it. Have you received any blood tests since taking the medication just to check they are not doing any damage. From now on if I am prescribed any medication I am asking for blood tests to be done every week to make sure it is not damaging my liver.

Thank you both for your replies, I have spoken to my GP this morning and he has agreed I should take a week off for my system to settle down and then we will look at the alternatives. Some really helpful advice from both of you. Many thanks.

On similar meds Urso, adcal, statins, gabapentin and recently been put on low dose naltrexone for itch.

This PBC sure does hit us with every crap feeling imaginable 😕.

Hope you feel better soon x
