I have to take nexium with Urso. Urso works fast for me with heartburn the only side affect

I have not heard of Nexium. It is only day 2 so will wait to see if it eases or goes away as I get used to it. If not I may see if I can take something.

in reply to Lisamarie33

I don't believe it gets better. You need to tell yur doctor. Nexium is a pill for heartburn

If i continue to get it over next few days I will see doc next week. I guess its a small price to pay and could have far worse side effects.

Not sure to be honest all new to me this.

Make sure you eat something with that last pill you take. It can help with the heartburn as long as it's not something super heavy or fatty.

Thank you. I am being super cautious at present making sure I eat something substantial when I take my pills.

i was on it for 19years.... i have just had a transplant 3weeks ago..... and i think a great deal of how long my old liver kept going for is down to the urso.

i was a stage 4biopsy all those years ago and was told at the time that I would need a transplant within 5/10years....so i wish you all the best... with urso your pbc may stay stable for a very long time or indefinitely. cazer. x

Wow urso did keep your liver going for a long time after they said it would. Luckily I have no damage to my liver at present after every scan going. Fingers crossed I get many years of urso. I hope all went well with transplant and you are on the mend.

thanks... doing pretty well really... in a bit of shock as I was only on the list for 6 weeks!!!!! and it was first call.

you may not with a bit of luck ever get to cirrhosis stage.... my best wishes to you. cazer.

Hello Lisamarie33.

I got heartburn after starting the urso December 2010. I did get a few other initial side-effects but I do get heartburn from time-to-time.

I have found with the urso, it is best to take the final tablet not long after the evening meal. Works best for me. If you do get heartburn take a calcium with Vitamin D tablet (they are very cheap, I buy supermarket own brand, same active ingredients as our UK Rennies for indigestion and heartburn but much much cheaper), works for me.

I started the urso on 2 x 300mgs but a couple years after taking, the pharmaceutical co lost their licence for the urso so I had to have 4 x 150mgs. I take 2 with breakfast, 1 an hour after lunch and then the final one about an hour following evening meal.

I have read that you can take the urso when you feel as long as take the recommended dose per day. I have tried various ways myself and find what I am doing now seems better. I once tried it all at once after breakfast, boy did I start to itch a couple hours later, something I never do in spaced out doses. I itch anyway but these days confined to late at night but know that in my case I think though the urso improves how our biliary system is working now, it also causes the itch so one rules out the other but I don't feel I can take a high dose at one time.

I am on 750mg. I take the smallest dose 250mg in the morning with breakfast. I take the 500mg with my evening meal. I am thinking of taking 3 doses instead so I will take x3 250g. I guess it's all trial and error in getting what works right for you.

Are you taking the last pill of the day at or near bed time, if so you could try taking it a little earlier. I take my last one by 6pm with the evening meal.

Hi I am taking my last one with my evening meal at around 6pm. My last one is the highest dose one 50mg tablet. I am thinking of just taking the 250g dose but 3 times a day.

in reply to Lisamarie33

Yes it may help to split the doses, i took it three times a day at the beginning and i think the patient leaflet does say three times a day for the first three months if I remember correctly.

Then in any combinations that suits you, some people take them all at once but i didn't tolerate that very well so I queried it with my consultant and she said she preferred me to stay with twice a day. I had some side affects at the beginning (8 years ago) but they were short lived. Hopefully it will settle down for you to.

I think it is just the way the gp prescribed it to me. I should of just been given the 200 mg box but I got a 500mg and a 250 one. It does actually say on my box to take all at night but don't fancy that. So far so good symptom wise.

in reply to Lisamarie33

I have the 250mg, the dose to take each day is dependant on your body weight. If the 250mg suit you better because you can devide them up I would ask your GP for those your overall dose to your weight is the important thing to have right.

My gp has adjusted my prescription for next time so I can take 3 a day. Going to use what I have for now as I have paid for them.

Im supposed to take Prilosec for a ulcer I have. It's much like Nexium. I do not take it though because it's a over the counter med that is somewhat expensive & my insurance will not cover it.

It says 'take with or after food' on my Urso prescription and as long as I do that I have no side effects. I take them in the evening when I have my main meal.

I split my dose up today so took 3 tablets instead of 2. No heartburn tonight.
