Has anyone tried this to get rid of the horrific itch.

I have tried questran, rifampin and naltrexone.

My liver specialist has now prescribed this as the itch is destroying me x

I have been on gabapentine for four years for nerve pain. I didn't know it could be used for the itch. It doesn't help me with itch. I do take hydroxizine for the itch. It doesn't help much either. I hope you have better good luck with it. It may help if the itch is the only reason you are taking it. Keep us posted on how it goes.

Lisa 15,

Why are you having nerve pain? Is that a PBC thing? I was just put on Gabapentin last Friday. Been on it a week. Numbness in mid back and a shocking burning sensation in my left breast and under my right arm along my upper side when I lean or bend forward. I mean ouch!! The Gabapentin has helped immensely! I can do my house work and reg. stuff. My doc thinks it's inflammation from my RA. So, waiting on RA drugs to fully kick in before I can get off the Gabapentin. Could he be wrong and it's a PBC thing?

I have nerve pain in my neck and back from herniated discs. When I am up moving around for very long it gets worse and causes a migraine. It helps me with not getting the migraines as often. I used to get them 6 or more times a month and could last few days, since I've been taking it I get them about 3 times a month. I am glad to hear it is helping with your pain. I don't know if it is PBC related or not. I have constant muscle pain and joint pain (I do have osteoarthritis) but I have deep bone pain. I don't have a clue why the bone pain and my GP doesn't really know either. I would like to know if that could be PBC related. Sorry, to have rambled on. I hope you get some relief with your RA meds. Please keep me posted.

This medication destroys your bones. With PBC we are susceptible to osteoporosis. As for the itch prevalite and hydroxyzine is recommended bc of the condition of filtering through your liver. The itch is different from normal itch. I slather my body with coconut oil when i get out of the shower. It seems to soak into my skin. I also suffer from dry everything mucus related. Ive found it helpful to keep those areas moisturized eye drop ear drops nassl spray and vaginal lubes.

Gabapentin eats your bones up.

Cfsummerford72,

Wow, that's not good news. It's downright scary. Can you send me a link or tell me where you got that information about Gabapentin? My doctor didn't tell me this. I may have to be on it a while. I've heard prednisone isn't good for bones.... but, I didn't know this about Gabapentin.

Thanks

Thank you for that link. I found a few of my own too. Don't know what to do now. I'm only on 200 mg a day split morning and evening. Still, this is upsetting. I'll be talking to my doctor about it.

I recently stopped taking this medication. I was not on it for the itch & it didn't help that either. I was on it for pain but all it done for me was make me pass out
