I wonder if there is anyone who is allergic to Adursal (PBC medication)? I have an awfaul swelling of the eyelids and jaws - could it be due to the medication (I think this started in the same time as I started taking Adursal)?

Or could PBC cause something like this?

Hello saarima.

I keep reading about PBC and the urso and though when I started to take it December 2010 it was said to be 'well tolerated' but it appears a lot state that they are 'allergic' to it.

I had a few initial side-effects from the urso in the early days that vanished but mine were probably as expected - heartburn, bit of tummy bloating and I thought the itching was worse (I started to itch early 2010, that is what I went to see a doctor for) - plus I started with constipation I never had pre-urso.

I think it has to be remembered that even having PBC means that we can develop other health issues or minor problems. I had nosebleeding on/off pre-diagnosis and continued after diagnosis. Though you can apparently have nosebleeding in late stage PBC mine was caused by a very minor pinprick size graze in my nose, nothing to do with PBC and it was sorted via ENT at the hospital.

Not heard of swollen eyes and jaw problems on this site (you can get dry eyes and mouth with PBC) but it seems to me that in the event you have developed some reaction to the urso it would be in your best interests to contact your doctor and ask his/her opinion.

Hi Saarima,

I took destolit ( urso brand) for 7 days then overnight I had allover rash, swollen lips and eyes and BP dropped dramatically. I saw gp that day who told me to stop urso that day and took piritese until the swelling went down ( about 3 days). When I saw my liver specialist he told me the reaction was too severe to risk trying lower doses.

I've not read about anyone else with that reaction on here so think it's maybe unusual. I would advise you to contact your gp.
