Hi Everyone,

My doctor upped my Urso to four tablets at night.

Since then my hair has got thinner and the texture has changed, its silky and

limp. Im hoping that this is not Urso related but probably is. Any suggestions?

Me too. I hope its not Urso related? I thought maybe it was stress related? I'm not sure what to make of it :(

I too was diagnosed in June and have been taking 4 URSO a day. My hair is thinner and as you described silky & limp. This has really knocked my confidence as well as coping with the shock of diagnoses.

Is there anything we can take to thicken it back up?

Odd you say that about your hair as I have been worrying about my hair as it is thinning on top, I did wonder if it could be Urso tablets does any one know

Mine has been thinning im taking boitin and going to start nioxin shampoo. My stylist recommended it. I've only been diagnosed about 2months and I take 2 orso at lunchtime.. I've manley notice my hair thinning and also that I have to go to the bathroom a lot I get a lot of stomach cramping and get a lot of diarrhea. My weight has dropped just a little bit. I don't know if it has anything to do with the Earth so but I've been gettin kinda itchy at night time I don't know if it's that or my anxiety / my nerves. Does anyone have these problems?

My hair has also become thinner, especially at the front where part of my fringe is now very thin. Could be Urso but wondered if it was common to auto immune conditions generally as my friend suffers from this and has rheumatoid arthritis.

In the latest edition of The Bear Facts there is an article for those people with PBC who have been advised to take Urso and one paragraph is relevant to what you are asking about. "Side effcts are usually mild and may include bloating, thinning of the hair, mild weight gain and sometimes a change to the bowel habit". Like you my hair has got thin and, as it can also be a side effect of an under active thyroid, as I suffer from both I figure I'll just have to put up with it and rely on my lovely hairdresser to disguise it as best he can!!

Hi my hair got to the point where you could see my scalp so I started to use regain, i tried Biotin shampoo, conditioner and biotin tablets for 12 months, i thought it was making a difference but it was still falling, it has now stopped and started to thicken up at the roots after using the regain for 6 months, unfortunately you do have to use it for life, My consultant is okay with this, as for my stomach cramps I have now been diagnosed with coeliac desiese and told that this is what is causing my cramps above and below my liver. Oh and on the hair topic again my thyroid went berserk which didn't help.

I was told it's condition related not urso related.

I too normally have very thick hair but now have thinning on top where my scalp is visible throug where my hair naturally parts. Also it has consistently increased in curl or frizz these last few years. I Had put mine down to Wearing a c- pap mask to bed and aging. Interesting subject.

I've been on 4 capsules of Urso a day, but my hair hasn't thinned yet. Besides taking Urso and Questran, I've also self-medicated myself with Vitamin D3 and CoEnymeQ10 for years - long before I was diagnosed with PBC in 2011. I wonder if this self-medication is stopping my hair from thinning, especially as I am some years past the menopause when one expects hair to start thinning.

However I was taking HRT for 16 years until I had to come off it about 1 year 10 months ago, and it could be that that was the reason my hair stayed thick - in which case will it start thinning soon? I know that for some people HRT is a no-no, but for me it was a marvellous medicine - I felt really well, had no aches and pains and my bones were strong. I'm waiting for the results of a DXA scan to find out what my bones are like now I've been off it for nearly two years.

Hi all I did read about the urso and it can effect hair growth, cause slight thinning.

I know this is upsetting but at the moment urso is the only thing to help slow the process of liver damage in Pbc.

If you have thick hair already you can start by using caffeine shampoo in between and massaging the head to help the blood supply to the scalp.

If like me you already have very fine hair try caffeine shampoo see if it helps, I've had alopecia for years and my hairs gone from very very thick to see through to my scalp, I've stopped colouring it naturally salt and pepper now very short to balance the thickness of the back with the sparseness of the rest lol

I know it's not funny but don't let stress of thinning hair combat the work of the urso, remember you can wear things to hide thinning hair, a new liver is harder to come by.

Good luck to you all xx
