Pain relievers

has anyone been told which pain reliever is better for us with PBC? Tylenol or Aleve? And any special dosage. I've heard that one of them can be bad for the liver.

Hi Gigi,

Tylenol or anything with acetaminophen. My doctors told me "NO NSAIDS (aspirin) EVER AGAIN.

Hi, I have read that I shouldn't take NSAIDS with any type of live disease. About 8 weeks ago I was prescribed Naproxen (an NSAID) after a back injury. I questioned if this was ok with PBC and the doctor said it would be fine. My routine LFTs a couple of weeks after starting these had all got worse (for the first time), my fatigue was so bad I had to take weeks off work and I developed a stomach ulcer! no one has conclusively said that the Naproxen caused these problems but in my own mind I'm sure of the connection and will be avoiding NSAIDS in future.

Tylenol ok, but the dose was so small, for me it does nothing. Doctor allows me Mortin or tylenol3 for temporary use only . Like yesterday I had some cancer spots removed from face and the pain was terrible and still is, I have two days worth of Tylenol 3 to get me through.

the leader of an on line group said he believes tylenol is the CAUSE OF LIVER DISEASE. I would not take that at all!!!!

Thanks Suekloo and CheshireEm, I have such bad pain in both knees that it makes it very painful if I have to walk to much. I asked my doctor this week, but realized when I got home that I didn't really get an answer. Now I have one 😊!!!

You shouldn't take aspirin as it is a blood thinner and can be dangerous in liver disease.ibrufropen is also a no go as well. Paracetamol is usually okay but check with gp.also for anything else you need to check with consult or gp.cazer

Think codeine is okay but also check with doc.

I take ibuprofen only as a last resort if having a terrible headache. I get those now since my thyroid has been removed. Usually only take tylenol.

Before being told no nsaids, Tylenol didn't work for me. Interestingly it now works just fine!
