I use a company called World First. I have PBC and Crohn's disease and find this company to be the most reasonably priced. I go away a lot and Just last week paid for annual European insurance which cost me £95. It's easy you can do on line or on the phone. I would expect to pay around £50 for a single trip. Have a great holiday.

I use Columbus direct annual for Europe £110

Hi Spoul,

I've heard others speak well of Columbus Direct. Do you have other conditions as well as PBC (message me privately if you don't want to say on the site), and are Columbus clear about their definitions of pre-existing medical conditions?

I have become phobic about TI after really bad experiences over PBC, when I don't even have it (just AMAs, and now waiting final check-up results after challenging my diagnosis). Also, so long as you tell them everything, can you then have conditions omitted? Eg I have a history of endometriosis, but with me it was only ever bad period pains: I'm now post-menopause, no problems for years, yet the last company I used made me have it listed.

Finally, how problematic is it if you have seen consultants in the previous year? My two appts have been ... non-invasive, discussions & 'ruling out'. One a thumb op that didn't happen: the consultant hadn't seen me 'til the day of the op, and decided the steroid injection had worked after all. She'd suggested it hadn't in a phone consultation (!) and insisted on the op, to then say I didn't need it on the day. Plus I had the appt with a PBC guru just to query my diagnosis.

Any help gratefully appreciated, as my other half desperately wants a sunny climes holiday, and it would calm my nerves to know I was dealing with a reputable company, that were not going to say stupid things. One 'so-called' medical expert, told me I could not possibly have had AMAs for over 20years, and not have oesophageal varices!

Take care,

Gritty

It seems to depend on how far on with pbc you are.i have p.hyper tension and grade 2 varices which ins company don't like. We got ours for 200 and something but thats for a 2 week cruise and my son had his appendix out within last 2 years so that puts it up.if wed wanted a week in a spanish island it would have been a lot cheaper. I will look up name ans post on here for you.best wishes cazer

Thanks cater I hope you feel we'll and I will look into it when you let me know who insurer's are xxx

Hello sophie666.

Out of interest Liver North add in each newsletter they produce a list of insurance companies at the time who are reckoned they will insure for PBC but as they state you'd have to go for a quote to find out as things change.

I was thinking of travel overseas myself a couple years ago and noticed the insurance company my son works for were listed but now they aren't. The company he works for they went on any changes in a 12 months period.

Some do a pre-screening process and I've tried for a 'dummy quote' myself with PBC previously and though I have everything in my favour (none of the factors like ascites nor medication changes, etc) but it has still either disallowed it or given me a high price what I thought was anyway.

I would be interested now to find out that since the PBC name change of the C wording would anything change as in favourable for PBC and travel insurance but also at the same time - sorry for digressing - for other things too (ie disability).

I always use World First Travel, very efficient, helpful and courteous, you must tell them everything though as your insurance could be invalidated if you hold anything back.
