Thank you to all of you for your replies, it's very comforting knowing you are out there and you know exactly what I'm going through.

I've been itchy going on for 11years now and nothing works for me. All the weird and wonderful lotions and potions prescribed and not in some cases.

Ill keep plodding on and wait for a little respite.

Thanks again.

Debbie.

I feel for you. We used to go out with a couple (he was a colleague of my husband and she was his wife) - not really my cup of tea but pleasant enough. Due to a particularly itchy phase when I was tearing my skin to shreds I cancelled a dinner date, then another. On the third lunch date we set, I was having yet another bad day , and was very depressed about it all, but we felt we couldn't cancel yet again, so we went. We had a nice lunch and whilst the men chatted she asked me how I was and I confided in her and felt rather teary- she already knew I had liver related problem but really did not understand it (as many people don't). On parting she put her hand condescendingly on my arm and told me that I had a lovely life (my husband has been successful in business), and that I should get on and enjoy it! Oh wow! I didn't retort, just smiled and said goodbye - the final goodbye. I realised you don't need people in your life that you feel won't understand if you are too unwell to cancel a lunch date even if it is for the third time!!!

Hi Wendy

I know exactly how that feels and what you mean, it's so hard to describe, I'm really tired and I itch,! 'So scratch it and get some sheep'! If only it was that easy. Frankly we don't need people in our already complicated and messed up lives. Thank you for taking time to write.

Hi , have you tried colestyramine powder, it works for me I take 3 sachets a day mixed with juice ,not nice but has helped me a great deal, my itching was very serious and went on for a very long time , if I miss a day the itch is back with a vengeance ! Regards tracey

Sadly other people's lack of understanding is yet another pbc cross to bear. Thank goodness for this site where we know from experience what others suffer and can sometimes offer up experiential advice and support.

Fortunately I don't suffer too much itch at present - what works for me is to stay cool, getting hot seems to set it off. I sleep under very sparse bedclothes even in winter.

Keep hoping that it might improve, nothing is impossible especially as research seems to be making some headway.
