AIH is as serious as PBC but no one seems to have taken this on board. I know some of the symptoms are the same, but there are also some differences.....We who are AIH/PBC overlap; need the same kind of help and information please xx

Hello. I am 43...dx 10 yrs ago...after birth of 3rd child. I hv pbc and aih. U r tired and itch. I tk imuran 50 mg.prednisone 10 mg. Urso 1250. Itch is worse during cycle. And at nite. I dr at mayo in rochester. They always sd itch was related to liver and possibly urso. In sept went on optifast diet. Shakes. 5 a day. 800 cal per day. Hv lost about 50 pounds. Now drink muscle milk. When I stick to shakes...and water with mio feel great. no itching and no yeast or urinary track infections..quite amazing actually. Only on antibiotics once during the diet. .labs raised dramatically. I need to avoid all antibiotics. Thus, was tested for food allergies...blew up for sulphites. Basically they r in wine and all processed foods. However w optifast take d3 and b12 sublingual. Truley i felt btr than had in 10 yrs. Not hung over from aterax...could sleep and had energy. I truley decorated for christmas this year. My 15.11 and 9 yr old asked what was going on...I told them mom finally feels btr. Best of luck and prayers. Baths in gallons of apple cider vinegar help too.

Seems to be a number of us on this site too. Aih seems to be far more aggressive as well. I have to say though that the advice, support and info from this site has been a gods send in a world where these illnesses seem to be a mystery to even those in the medical profession.

Hello conniefused.

You should find a leaflet on AIH on the British Liver Trust website. I did once of a day trawl through them online and they open as if they were the paper printed leaflets. Not sure if there is one for AIH/PBC though, think you have to read those as 2 seperate issues.

Also check out the Liver North website, they have publications on there too as they cover different liver conditions and not a specific one.

The thing that annoys me more with a general liver charity (ie British Liver Trust) is that they seem tofocu far too much on problems with the liver caused by alcohol. I get annoyed many a time when I see them featured on a tv programme surrounding health and then seemingly featuring bad diet and alcohol without stressing to viewers that there are other types of liver conditions that have nothing whatsoever to do with alcohol.

I actually find that more and more that Liver North seems to focus a lot of on PBC which I find interesting as it seemingly has a lot of supporters who do have PBC and being based in Newcastle it is in England.

I do think any information from 'the horse's mouth' so-to-speak whether it be PBC Foundation, Liver North, etc is quite good compared to nothing.

For conniefused and anyone else, here is the link for the download of the AIH leaflet on the British Liver Trust site.
