I apparently have been in Stage 3 CID / Kidney Failure for many years - only advised this recently - is there a connection with PBC? thanks again
PS to previous post: I apparently have been... - PBC Foundation

Hello Nellasu.
I had a new to me blood test 12mths ago and when I checked what it was it was for checking how well the kidneys were functioning. The result was just showing one point below the normal range but the doctor informed me that in PBC it can be normal.
Also it depends on age as as we get older our kidney function does start to deteriorate somewhat regardless. I am 50 in the notso distant future.
I can't say for certain whether a problem with kidneys is down to PBC altho' I recently read an interesting article about the liver in a library book (there was only 2 pages on the liver in a book on digestive health). The article stated that if the liver is really struggling to rid the body of toxins then the kidney does some of the work. Apparently ther are a few symptons that you know this by. Frequent urination is one of them. I am pretty normal during the day here, if I wake at night I usually pop to the loo but the odd thing is prior to ever taking urso I never did this. But due to me not sleeping through the night anyway due to the itch a lot (I am a night-time itcher), I seem to think I pop to the bathroom just to get out of bed and move about as the itch magically vanishes a short while until I get back in bed so I think with me it has become a habit.
Have you thought about asking your consultant his/her opinion on this.
