Hi yesterday I had a beautiful day at a mind, body, spirit show. On the way home and very suddenly I was in so much pain. It felt like extremely painful trapped wind at first. The pain was all across my upper abdomen, in the middle of my back, in my arms, my chest and in my head. I felt so sick. The pain only abated after I had been sick, and I have been like this all night. Pain and sick. Not a tummy bug i am sure of that. Today not being sick and pain is almost gone except for a few twinges.
I actually thought I was having a heart attack....and today I feel a bit weak and my head is fuzzy. i am sure it was not my heart as had ecg two weeks ago and it was fine. I am wondering if it is my adrenals because I would put the pain in my back just above the kidneys.
Any light on please
xxxThanks

Hi conniefused, I have had similar for a few months on and off, not quite so bad. Hung in and waited for my consult appoinment. He said we must not put all things down to PCB, as i have a hiatus hernia, he is doing a camera down the throat(yuck) to check that has not got worse and also having a liver scan as he said it may be gallstones as the pain fluctuates sharp to dull and constant and yes i feel nausea all the time. Very bad in the am and bearable for the rest of the day. I think you should try and see some one, if only to get soem help and answers, good luck
Thank you for your reply lisacj. I have AIH/PBC overlap, and I was fine yesterday morning. I don't have a hernia nor a gall bladder so I really have no idea why this happened yesterday. I can't eat anything either which is annoying. I have felt nauseous all day, but I am sure it will pass. I was just a bit concerned.
I will put it in my diary and tell consultant about it at my next appointment in two weeks. i plan to try an get an appointment with gp tomorrow...to see what he/she suggests it could be.
thanks again
xxconniefused
Not sure if you can get pain via the adrenals. They are on top of the kidneys.
I know if one has Addison's Disease where the adrenals cease working they are basically just redundant and one would need a steroid med daily to compensate.
My late first husband had Addison's and nausea and being sick are symptons if you haven't had any synthetic adrenal (ie steroids). You are very fatigued and do lose weight. Unfortunately for my late husband back then, despite me suggesting to a doctor at the hospital he might have Addison's (all I got was, 'What do you know about Addison's') but they failed to test him and it was discovered after he died (not of this, something else).
Gallstones can apparently bring on a sharp pain beneath the rib cage after eating something that contains fat. My mother had gallstones many many years ago and this is how hers were discovered.
If like me and plenty of others on this site, if you had an ultrasound scan, more often than not gallstones show up on that. Suppose it depends how long ago you had a scan. I had one prior to diagnose back in 2010.
