my husband is doing the mma test today. He has to collect his urine for 24 hours. He collected twice but when He went to the gym and forgot and went to the bathroom - should he start over tomorrow? Will missing 1 collection screw the whole test up?

Yes, do it again. Otherwise it's pointless.

Just reminiscing about 24 hour urine testing.

Back in the day we had the Schilling tests, we administered oral radioactive B12. Any absorbed was then excreted in the urine. [We administered a 'cold' B12 injection first, so transcobalamins were saturated.] The practice required a 24 hour urine to be collected, and returned to us. Potential causes of failure of the test?

1. Doctor refusing to administer replacement B12 before referring for a Schilling Test. [Demonstrating a complete lack of understanding!]

2. Patient refusing the injection! [Rare, but I know of at least one case where this happened.]

3. Patient not collecting the full 24 hour urine.

4. Patient collecting it all, but spilling some.

So, a good test, but not infallible. Still, it's a pity it's history.
