For those that self injecting IM in the thigh, do you grab/ pinch the muscle or do you leave it “flat” when you inject?

It’s a PDF that probably comes up in a download dialogue. Just try a right-click on the link when the redirect notice appears and choose "save target as".

I’m so sorry, Cherylclaire I’ve only just seen your reply. So sorry it didn’t work. I’m sure the lovely people on here took care of you but just in case they didn’t maybe try the link below 😊 I think it’s a pdf file though.

Hi, I leave mine flat

I also leave mine flat. I tense my muscle first, so I can feel the most firm area, then relax my muscle and inject without touching my leg

I pinch skin when inserting needle and then lay the skin flat as I press plunger to administer serum. This is the technique I was taught by the nurse who instructed me on how to self-inject. I do pull back on the plunger to make sure I’m not in a vein but in 5 years of self injecting I’ve never hit a vein. I also leave the needle inserted for about 10 seconds after injecting serum to help keep it in the muscle and prevent leakage into the subcutaneous tissue.

I inject at front of thigh and leave flat slightly pulling skin to one side. I basically follow these guidelines for IM injection. If you inject on front of thigh into muscle there is virtually no worry about hitting a vein. I think this is the simplest method.

Hope that helps, Rex
