One injection per prescription

Hi. I’ve just been to collect my b12 prescription. Instead of the normal box of 5 I was given an individual vile and charged the full prescription amount!

I’ve complained to the doctors and been told to put it in an email.

I self inject so know how much they cost.

Has anyone else had this problem?

I have mine very two months as per the specialist recommendation.

No, indeed, my last two lots had an extra ampoule squeezed into the box of five.

That's ridiculous I initially got a pack of 5 for the prescription charge of £9,15. I wrote to my gp to see if I could have more per prescription. To my surprise I got 3 boxes. I do buy my own needles syringes swabs sharps box.

I get it prescribed 2 weekly at present. However this backfired as the last 2 boxes were a brand I

seemed to have reacted to. So wi have to pay again for replacement boxes. So overall paid 3x the prescription charge. £27.45 for 4 boxes 20 ampoules !!

It’s cheaper to buy in bulk from the German online pharmacies . Of course you have to pay for the courier which is €9.00 no matter how many you buy. About £9.00 since the pound dropped against the Euro . A box of 10 is about €6.00 depending where you buy it I buy 100 ( 10 x 10 ) for about €56.00 . This suits me as I inject weekly and the use-by date is about 2 1/2 years hence .

I agree Wedgwood but it’s also useful to still have a prescription on your GP records. For example, when travelling (I remember those days) with hand luggage only I’m always nervous going through passport control etc with needles and syringes. But at least I have my repeat prescription form which shows that the GP has prescribed vials of hydro.

I also like the idea that my medical records show hydroxo as it is something I need for health.

Yrs I buy my own too from Germany. I do like ot tk be on my medical notes I need frequent Injections. It's only been since covid19 I pay anything for them. As when you go tk the surgery which I was you dont pay. When its sorted I wi pay 9.15 for 15 ampoules which is fine. When I'm 6o it will be free. I will continue to 'top uo' with b12 bought from Germany.

Except the nurse at the gp surgery will say you have too much and you don't need it! I am 60 and although I had my B12 reinstated, I think it's only a reprieve so the nurse could take bloods, the nurse at my surgery was rude and dismissive of my symptoms, she even said that 1 of symptoms wasn't PA, but when you look on-line - NHS it's one of the symptoms, she also said that my B12 level was high and my body is storing it and too much B12 is not good for you, she couldn't tell me the symptoms of PA, which makes me think she doesn't understand it and the gp's are leaving the decision about who gets continuing B12 to nurses! Sad state of affairs that gp's are leaving important decisions to their nursing staff who don't seem to understand the patient's needs!

Complain. You shouldn't have to put up with a nurse telling you that you're not ill.

Just had a thought ! do sufferers not get free prescriptions because of a medical condition. Ie, like diabetics ?

No - afraid not:

The other options are to move - prescription charges in the UK only apply in England - gain sufficient years to hit 60, become pregnant, or get one of the other conditions.

The system needs to be re-thought entirely but there is no obvious movement to do so.
