Not been allowed injection of b12

As like many of you on here, I too have been told (due to Covid ) that i can no longer have injections and to take tablets .

I’m booked in for blood tests Tuesday.

I have never felt so ill, I can hardly stay awake and my memory is getting worse and it is now affecting my work.

My last blood tests (back in feb) said my levels were high and my dr said I could leave my injections for a couple of weeks. (My injection in March was stopped because of Covid) However I know when my levels are dipping and I could feel it then so I don’t understand how the levels could be high?

Also is there a way of obtaining the b12 injection and administering it myself? Really sorry for the long rant but I’m physically exhausted And looking for advice

Most of us on this forum are obliged to self -inject . I joined PAS because I was so desperate and feeling so very unwell that I hadn’t the strength to do battle with my GP . Here I found out how to self inject . If you get nowhere with your doctor , you may feel like going down that route . But first do write to your doctor and say that tablets do not work for you ,and that your symptoms have returned . Injections can be done during Covid. .

B12 should not be tested after injections are started if you have P.A. You levels must stay high , and are for LIFE .

Thank you

Do you get yr b12 from the dr? Or do you pay privately to self administer ? Thank you

I don’t bother going to the doctor anymore . I’ve told them that I’ve been driven to self-injecting . Of course they don’t approve .Its honestly so cheap to self inject . It cheaper than going on the bus to the surgery , About £1.60 everything included .And most important , I’ve got my health back .

As wedgwood says. Its easy to buy b12 online . Just make sure you know how to inject properly.

Do wrote to Gp.

Do ask for a prescription of b12 .

Do write all your symptoms and how you are getting so ill.

Do quote bnf and BSH guielines

I have and get a prescription as I want it on my medical notes. I also want the medics to be aware we need it.

I also buy it as too stressful thinking about being in your position without .

Thank u!

I’m new to this website and sorry if I sound stupid but how do I find the bnf and bsh guidelines? I just want to make sure I’m armed with all the knowledge when I go to my drs.

Thanks again

Just Google Nice bnf. B12 guidelines . Or just mention them to Gp. They know!! Just dont read them often.

If you look at recent posts there are links. Or PAS information . I'm no good at posting links as eyesight/head cant cope with all the jumping about🙃The magnifying glass at the top . Then put in ? B12 injections stopped perhaps

Are you in the US? If so you can order b12 injections through Empower Pharmacy:

empowerpharmacy.com/drugs/h...

You will need your doctor to prescribe this for you. I know some individuals self inject, ask for your doctor or nurse to teach you.

In regards to your worsening symptoms it’s very important for your doctor to understand the significance of this. Read and share this article to your doctor:

The Many Faces of Cobalamin (2019):

ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articl...

Even if your serum levels are high it doesn’t mean your still not deficient and require more injections. The journal article explains it more.

Best!
