Hi,

Has anyone experienced any vocal cords issues? Google gives only one unique case history. Need to know this very urgently. Thanks in advance.

I have long term paradoxical vocal cord disorder with unknown cause. Appeared after late diagnosis of pernicious anemia and onset of peripheral neuropathy.

It is common !It is due to peripheral neuropathy! It will be fixed with the injections.

Is it common? I didn’t get any responses when I asked about it before in this forum and none of my doctors can figure it out. Is there some information you could point us to about this. Thank you so much!

Yes, I have it, also just on my left side. It started around the time I was diagnosed and it is slowly improving. I also have reflux when my voice is at its worst. The vagus nerve goes to the vocal cords and the esophageal sphincters. Mine waxes and wanes with the seasons. My body wants to hibernate in the winter and my symptoms get worse. I’m on my third year with this. I found having a personal amplifier was very helpful as I need to talk at work and I find it difficult to raise my voice loud enough to be heard in a loud room.

I did also have injections of restelin, an absorbable substance, in my vocal fold to plump it up to make it easier for the other vocal cord to meet it as I was leaking air and had no voice at all. I had two of those and they can even implant a permanent bit of silicone to bring your vocal fold to the midline. They offered me that, but my voice improved last summer and has stayed pretty good this winter. I hope yours is not as severe as mine.

Thanks for your replies. Actually this is happening to my wife who is also B12 deficient. MRI showed everything is normal. Safe to assume this is due to B12 deficiency.
