Vitamin D insufficiency

Hello All ,

I was recently diagnosed with Vitamin D insufficiency levels being 27/nmol . I have been having some sharp electrical shock sensation run through my body . All over my body even in my gentials . I have been told low vitamin d can trigger this nerve pain . I am here to see if anyone else has experienced this symptom with vitamin d insufficiency. I was prescribed d2 50,000 iu for once a week for the next 12 weeks. All my other lab work was fine . Has anyone else experienced this with vitamin D insufficiency?

My vit D levels was 21. I did not have the symptoms you describe. Are you sure it's not the B12 defiency. I had electric shocks through my body and head whigh were awful. Rectified with b12 injections.

Oh okay

Hope once your vitamin d at a better level your symptoms improve. Everyone is different. It will take a while though. Try and get some sun on your torso and head to help get your leveks up.

What was the B12 level, did they give you the actual figure? Nerve pain is more likely B12 related. Drs often say 'normal' but the level varies by health area..

I had it with untreated hypothyroidism and was probably Vit D deficient. I understand lack of magnesium and calcium imbalances can cause it because these are key in efficient nerve operation and the shocks are signs that the nerves are not working properly. Mine stopped once I started thyroid hormone therapy I had Vit D deficiency about two years after starting medication but the shocks did not come back but I felt very unwell until it was corrected. Magnesium deficiency can also cause cramp which I still get on and off ☹️

They were very bad in my knees and legs and could occur elsewhere like arms but I do not recall getting any in the genital region. Hope that helps.

I've just been diagnosed with a level of 28 for Vitamin D and already have B12 deficiency, I had leg pains. Given same tablets. Doc said I will start to feel better in around a month so hopefully you will too. Good luck.

Hi, I was recommended sublingual/ oral Vit D after D-cal tablets made little difference. I experienced very speedy improvement. You can buy from health shops or on line. As you spray it under your tongue your body absorbs it pretty much straight into the blood stream. Really useful If you have a gut based absorption issue see - article below. I use 3000 units daily as a maintenance dose and get my bloods checked 2 x annually.

Hi, i find all the other comments helpful. I had to give up with Doctors at my UK practice as all blood tests came back ok and they were not willing to do specific tests, but with my own research im convinced i has B12 and D3 deficiency, also B12 and D3 seem to be intrinsically linked? but one thing ive learnt is that to absorb D3 via sunshine we need cholesterol and mine had been low for many years so i do not steer away from cholesterol foods these days and rather embrace them, i always feel better after just one hour with most body skin exposed to the sun, but check the times of day and year to be able to absorb D3. Look up, The "Shadow Rule" If your shadow is longer than you are tall, then you will not make vit D

Also i have found that mushrooms are one of the few foods high in Vit D3

Hello. Yes, I have just been diagnosed with vit D deficiency and I, too, have experienced the sensation that you describe. It feels a bit weird doesn't it but hopefully it will subside with treatment.

Yes I would have weird electrical shocks and muscle contractions. They were mostly in my arms and midsection and usually happened when I was falling asleep. Has anyone else noticed that? My D levels were 27. I took 10000 units a day for 3 months to bring up D levels.

No. Mostly upper body and abdomen spasms. I also had fatigue and weak, shaky legs. Dizziness, too.

HI I get pains in my genital area and I also get upper body and abdomen spasms too but not sure why. My vitamin D is 25 nmol/L which is almost insufficient despite me taking 800iu capsules and I will be pushing my GP to prescribe me loading dose of vitamin D because my vitamin D has almost halved within 3 months of testing. I take B12 injections and folic acid too.

Hope this helps.
