Type 2 Diabetes and B12 injections

Hi

After some strange incidents of perceived low blood sugar over the weekend I wonder if anyone on here has had any issues with their type 2 diabetes while injecting/supplementing their B12?

Thanks

Bob

Hi No_fixed_abode as one who has had P.A. with monthly injections for over 46 years and type 2 Diabetes on Metformin I can't say I've experienced any "strange incidents of perceived low blood sugar" but then I don't test BS.

Could it be sheer coincidence - over exercise - missed "snacks" or medication?

Are you on insulin injections?

Perhaps a call to your surgery would be a good idea.

I am not a medically trained person and wish you well.

Hi Clive

It probably is coincidence, the reason I posed the question in a very vague fashion to see what came back! The real problem is differentiating what is B12 head fug and diabetic head fug. This is just something that I have noticed recently happening at the weekends and is probably diet related. I am not really worried about it, as I know my BS was not actually low, and I am playing around a bit with my metformin right now. Just yesterday it was very pronounced.

Thanks

Bob

I agree - it's a job to know which "condition" to blame sometimes.

Personally I find that keeping to a "routine" is really important and I'm still "clivealive" at the age of 77.

B12 is involved in the Krebbs cycle - which is the process that cells use to release energy. If this cycle goes wrong then you can get keto-acidosis - which is a consequence of cells burning fats rather than sugars to produce energy. Some people do report sweetness on the breath as being an indicator that their B12 is low - a symptom that is also typical of insulin levels being low in diabetes.

Hmm, thanks Gambit that is very interesting... In addition to weird hypoglycemic feelings after eating (BS is in the 7.5 - 8.0 region), I often get very cold. Sometimes I just feel cold, other times I can measure low temperature, sometimes as low as 35.5, but usually about 0.5C below normal. Being cold I am equating to cells not producing enough energy. I have always assumed that this would be thyroid related, it is very difficult to find anything else that lowers body temperature.

In addition I am deliberately on a low carb diet as this is the best way I have found to lower my blood sugar and lose more weight. In the past I have tried through fasting to push my body into a keto state, but it really does not work for me, very fuzzy thinking and lethargic. No sweet breath though. But, at the time I was doing this I was also likely B12d.

Thanks again, I will investigate the Krebbs Cycle and see if it makes sense in my context.
