Hi all

Would like help with interpreting my bloods please.

I know b12 is low and have chronic inflammation but other than that i have no idea. Unable to post all results and can only upload 1 pic and cant fit them all on but the rest are as follows.

Creatinine >90 ml/min (60.-200.0)

Serum ferritin 81 ug/L (12-300)

Plasma c reactive protein 9mg/L (0.0-10.0)

Erythrocytr sedimentation rate 19mm/h (1.0-20.0)

I do have more that i dont think are relevent but do ask if you think anythings missing and i will put on.

Any advice/help appreciated my doctor has told me to distract myself from the daily pain of neuropathy as i am only borderline ! Tia

You have low B12 and large red blood cells (macrocytic anaemia, indicated by the high Mean Cell Volume - MCV).

You need to be started on a course of B12 injections immediately, as per this NHS document: hey.nhs.uk/wp/wp-content/up...

For Adult

Initially 1 mg once daily on alternate days until no further improvement, then 1 mg every 2 months.

If I were your doctor’s patient I would be tempted to tell him to distract himself from the pain of my boot in his bottom as it’s only slightly shoved up there.

Thanks for this im trying to get as much info as possible.

I walked out his office yesterday in tears and frustration did not listen to a word i said to him. He said as i have ibs i need to control my diet and i drink over the units per week ! ,diagnosed with ibs as a teenager (bouts of dairy/gluten intolerance inbetween) and still have no idea about what aggrevates my symptoms !!! Have lost all trust in doctors over the years heading for privatisation looks like ! .

He even drew me a diagram !!!! To show how far off the "normal range i was " felt completely degraded and patronised throughout. He has wrote things on my notes that are not completely true aswell so i am taking that further ! My priority is to feel healthy again im Thinking i need to self inject now im concerned about permanent damage !

Write a letter. Send a copy to the doctor, another to the practice manager. Include copies of the Hull and East York’s guidelines. Explain that you’re worried about permanent nerve damage including sub-acute combined degeneration of the spinal cord if you don’t receive proper treatment.

If you send a letter it goes into your record.

Thanks fbirder i will do this. I am one of these people that really do not visit a gp unless im on my knees ! They must view this as an oppotunity to try and pull the wool over peoples eyes. I just want to be treated for my b12 properly it would answer an awful lot of questions for me and something i can manage myself. I dont understand why he wouldnt just treat surely all the painkillers cost just as much as an injection of b12 !

Can I just add to fbirder's comment. State in the letter that you would like it added to your notes and that you have kept a copy. I discovered that letters I'd sent had NOT been added to my notes, and was told by an officious receptionist that they 'dont bother adding them unless it's specifically requested by the patient or is requested by the doctor!!!

Sadly the Thyroid function Test result is off the bottom of the page - so not able to help. Perhaps you could type in the results - thank you

How shocking your GP does not understand your results and should treat you in this way. You are not alone as so many people now come to forums for answers ....

My last thyroid results as follows

Serum tsh level 1.8 mu/L (0.5-4.4) with notes

Interpretation no biochemical evidence of primary thyroid disease. If on t4 the tsh suggests adequate treatment.

If patient is on antithyroid drugs or if any suspicion on pituitary disease further tests required.

New rang for tsh.ft3 and ft4 as of december 2017

Looks like they may have looked at t4 but no mention of t3 and there are no results for these

If they had tested the FT4 - there would be a result - ditto FT3. Still no anti-body results for TPO & Tg. Were those tests done privately and when. ?

I read your post/replies of three years ago on Thyroid UK !

Just having a TSH result tells you diddly squat about the thyroid - it is a Pituitary hormone. FT4 & FT3 are thyroid hormones.

Not done privately these results are from last month my last one before these were 3 years ago but dont have them. I have been told no issues with thyroid !! But wont test t3 t4. The same doctor that says my neuropathy isnt caused by low b12. I am going to see another doctor and plan on insisting for these tests.

Just feel so drained from all the hoops you have to jump through to get simple treatement its easier to do it yourself.

Sadly the NHS rarely test the FT3 so the private route through Thyroid UK is the best option - also they only test TPO anti-bodies and not the Tg. You can have negative TPO but positive for Tg anti-bodies - so without testing how would they know ? The whole thing is a shambles.

You have had good advice about your need for B12 injections ASAP - so you are well prepared now for when you see your GP.
