Cream for minor injection scars

I inject intramuscularly in my thigh and occasionally a puncture hole will develop a small scar which can take a week to heal. I inject once or twice day, so I want to stop any such scars building up.

Is there a healing cream available? I use Savlon but it's really an antispetic and does not promote healing other than by preventing infection.

Hello Clive. Body lotions and skin creams may improve the skin (I have one of those Vaseline Intensive Care lotions you kindly linked to) but I don't think they help speed up healing of micro-scarring from punctures.

Have you thought about using other injections sites? I find that deltoid (upper arm which is where my gp practice give them) and glutes (upper outer quadrant of buttocks) are slightly more awkward to administer than my thighs but well worth the effort.

Glutes tend to give me the most pain free easy to go in injection so it’s worth the contortions!

Deltoid is quick and easy with that arm resting on a pillow.

Although easy to reach I don’t like it when it’s the turn of my thighs as these seem to be as tough as old boots with resistance when I push the needle in. They’re also the only place that I’ve bled or bruised.

As I inject weekly by rotating sites it means that I only use each injection site once every 6 weeks so I have no scarring etc.

Hello Jan. For me it's the thigh or deltoid. Glutes are too awkward. Pain is not an issue. The tiny scarring is not terrible but could build up and I suspect prevention is better than cure.

There are moist gels to speed up wound healing but they are not suitable for a larger area of pinprick scars. I wonder if there is anything specific for this need.

I have heard that bio oil is good for scars. Never tried it myself but that might be worth a try

Excuse me for butting in from thyroid UK but just read your post and wondered if you have tried Aloe Vera. I have an Aloe Vera plant, it's really handy to break a piece off and dab the gel directly onto a wound. It heals within a couple of days. I believe there are Aloe Vera creams too. Hope this helps.
