Tingling in bottom of leg and stiff thigh for 6 months

One day suddenly while waking up my legs kind of felt like locked. I went to doctor who checked my blood and found b12 as 180 and prescribed me monthly shots and sublingual tablets

I was healthy and active man and 45 at that time It's been 6 months and though on and off I see improvements the tingling in the bottom of foot Is not going away

I also get burning sensations lately and electric shoots in the upper rib once in a while

is it all related to b12 deficiency or are we missing something I don't feel completely disabled but am unable to gym or do activities in a fast manner as before I. E fast walking or running etc

Note I am a vegetarian and have so far taken 4 monthly and 3 loading shots

Will do my bloodwork again soon

Hi Thisisit1 being a vegetarian is likely to put you at risk of developing a Vitamin B12 deficiency which in turn damages the nerve endings causing neurological pain.

Supplementing with B12 (orally or by injection) starts to repair the damage but a lot will depend on the severity and longevity of the deficiency and there is no set timescale as we are all different. Indeed, sadly some damage may be irreparable but hopefully not in your case.

The only natural way we can source B12 from food is by eating red meats, fish, seafood, eggs, poultry and dairy produce so if your daily diet does not include any of these it is likely that you will need to supplement for life.

Being vegetarian I guess you eat plenty of leafy green vegetables such as sprouts, broccoli, spinach, asparagus, peas, beans etc. It is important to have a healthy level of Folate as this and the B12 you are now supplementing helps your iron to function properly and make red blood cells.

I am not a medically trained person but have had P.A. (a form of B12 deficiency) for 46 years.

I wish you well.

Thank you clivealive for your well wishes

My only confusion is how do I know I am getting better or is this the real cause i.e. b12 deficiency

As Gambit62 says "have you kept a diary of when the improvements occur and when they disappear - particularly in relation to the monthly shots."

It's a good idea to keep a record in case you have to go back to your doctor because you "feel the need" of more frequent injections.

have you kept a diary of when the improvements occur and when they disappear - particularly in relation to the monthly shots.

Whilst oral B12 can be effective in maintaining B12 levels for some people it doesn't work for everyone and it may be that you need more frequent shots to keep levels where you need them - which are likely to be much higher than they are for someone who has had loading shots than they will be for the general population - so normal levels don't apply anymore and can't be used as a guide to treatment.

Hmm I don't have dairy but in general I feel same everyday with or without shots

I feel better in the morning after waking up and then it declines till end of day

Once in a while randomly once in 6 7 days I feel a lot better without any rhyme or reason

Thanks

suggest you a) identify all possible symptoms and b) monitor them.

some people do find that they need shots on a daily basis.
