Will recent B12 shots Affect Iron Panel results?

Hi all,

I want to check my iron levels to see if I should supplement iron (I'm pretty sure I do as Hb is low). My question is, will my having had recent b12 loading shots affect my iron tests?

Tests to run:-

Serum Ferritin

Serum Iron + Total Iron Binding Capacity

Tranferrin Iron Saturation Percentage

Also would it affect a Serum Folate level test?

I am doing the tests at a private lab so will have no advice from docs, just blood drawn + results emailed, hence question. I'm checking out the 'Iron Disorders Institute' website for help once I get my results.

the type of anaemia caused by B12 deficiency (macrocytosis) is different from the type of anaemia caused by iron deficiency (microcytosis).

Macrocytosis makes red blood cells less efficient at transferring oxygen - because the volume to surface area is significantly reduced.

Microcytosis means that red blood cells can't carry as much oxygen because they are smaller.

Please be careful - too much iron can make you ill.

Thanks, I'm worried about iron overload which is why i want to check before supplementing with iron, but as I have a low Hb level I presume i have iron deficiency anemia as well as b12 anemia. I've read that a few people have this but won't take any iron supplements until I know for sure.

Any idea if the b12 shots will affect the results of iron tests?
