Any further improvement

I have been taking tablets now for 11 weeks and I am improving but so so slowly am thinking about asking for injections, my question is when it says doses every other day until no further improvement does that mean there will never be any further improvement once the loading doses have stopped.

Thanks C.

Hi calbous I'm not medically trained but I think it means that the six loading are reckoned to be sufficient for neurological symptoms to have abated.

However, if some still remain further loading doses may be given for as long as improvement is noticed until either they have gone or until there is no further noticeable improvement.

It is by no means certain that all symptoms will go away quickly as soon as remedial treatment with B12 is started. Some may take months or even years to resolve, some maybe never - as a lot will depend on the severity and longevity of the deficiency.

I hope this makes sense - but it is Monday morning :)

Thanks I was just wondering if there could be any improvement after 3 months for example after loading doses have finished.

You are taking tablets, the "loading doses" I thought you were referring to are for injections of B12.

Do I take it the tablets are not "working" for you after three months?

Remember I'm not medically trained so if you want specific answers to your questions re-post them and there are others on here who will be able to give you good advice. Either that or see what your doctor says about changing to injections.

I wish you well - I'm just off to get my B12 shot at nine o'clock having been having them for more than 45 years.

I am on tablets but was referring to injections if I went on them and was wondering if it possible to improve after 6 months for example after loading doses had finished.

A lot will depend on the strength of your tablets. Perhaps you need to get your B12 and Folate levels tested to see if they are OK

you need to take B12 by shot or by sublingual for the rest of your life if you have a healthy diet and still have low B12 or it will get low again. Nerve damage is very slow to heal but you should be seeing improvement in a few weeks for some symptoms. I can't believe how many doctors still do not understand this.

Dear Clivealive , you are always going on about not being medically trained . You know more about Pernicious Anaemia than the doctors!! If the doctors were knowledgeable , the PAS would have no need to exist !

That may have a modicum of truth wedgewood but I feel it is only "fair" to warn my dear reader that I can speak mainly only from experience - not training - in accordance with HU guidelines:

Content on HealthUnlocked does not replace the relationship between you and doctors or other healthcare professionals nor the advice you receive from them

I'm not qualified to give advice just a bit frustrated at the same questions and scenarios cropping up every day when all I can do is to guardedly "point them in the right direction" which you also regularly do.

But P.A.S. Unlocked HAS replaced my relationship with doctors , certainly regarding P.A. I don't know where I would be without P.A.S. unlocked . It has changed my life !

I look upon doctors in quite a different way now , after my experiences regarding PA. which were really awful .

You are really brilliant and generous with your help . Thanks a million !

I'm sure forums such as this and PAS Society etc etc have literally been life preservers for countless patients. The pool of well informed knowledge and experience is invaluable. I share your admiration and appreciation.

I seem to remember reading someone on here was on alt days injections of B12 for a year because neurological symptoms were continuing to improve.

Having said that, it's certainly possible I've got this totally wrong but I'm sure that's what I read.

I'd be very happy if someone could verify this question, as it is very pertinent to myself too.

Thanks for posting this question ;)

I havent heard of this exact case , but you know that you could do this yourself, without any worry . B12 is not toxic at all . Any excess B12 is just eliminated in one's pee! I have injected weekly for 2 years , to my benefit . Best wishes .
