Head pressure while on b12 injections..!

Hi There,

I'm on the way to recovery from b12, it was 227 in last month and have had 6 methlyco injections since then.

I do see some weird symptoms now.. like one day everything good (unsteadiness still exists..!) and another day heavy head pressure (sometimes on forehead too).. is this normal..? Or need to get some other tests done..?

I'm also seeing tinnitus since last week, which wasn't appeared in last month. I had very bad tiredness, sharp pins in head, and used to faint most of the times.

I've had brain and spinal chord MRI done 3 weeks ago, all came back normal.

Your help please.. thanks

Hi Rat007 Sadly I am unable to give you much comfort except to say that it is quite common for some symptoms to appear to get worse before they get better once your loading doses start.

However this is a "good sign" that the B12 you are having injected is starting to repair some of the damage done to your nervous system caused by the deficiency.

Your loading doses should continue until their is no further improvement in your neurological symptoms. When are your injections scheduled from now?

What diagnosis do you have? Vitamin B12 Deficiency or Pernicious Anaemia?

Do you know why you became deficient?

Do you know your Folate level? It's important that this is checked by your doctor.

Make a list of your ongoing neurological symptoms and go back to your doctor and ask if your loading doses can continue and whether you need to supplement with folic acid.

I'm not a medically trained person but there are others on here who will be able to give you good advice,

Thanks for your response.

Doctor said, it's B12 deficiency, it's because I'm vegetarian..:(

I'm going to see my folate level too, will keep you posted

Hi Rat007, it is a very good sign that your MRIs came back normal. As for symptom relief from injections everyone sees improvement at a different pace. I'm currently getting frustrated at my rate of improvement also.

Are you taking any medications besides the methylcobalamin injections? I saw you were taking prochloroperazine a couple of weeks back, likely for your fainting or dizziness. Are you still taking that? I'm not a doctor either but one of the possible side effects of that medication is that it could affect blood pressure.

It is hard to say if your head pressure is "normal" since we all have different symptoms with b12 deficiency and none of them are normal. Since tinnitis just appeared last week as a new symptom, to be on the safe side, I would advise you to consult with your GP and see if your blood pressure is normal.

Thanks for your response.

My blood pressure is normal. I used to take prochloropezine but have stopped now since injections are started. I'm only taking Absolute 3g (multivitamin with omega fatty acids).

I'm in india now, as I found difficultly to get this treated early through NHS.

My doctor said, you'll be settled down in one more month. But having this head pressure, I'm finding very difficult to survive, so thought checking here, if anyone has same symptom or experience.

Do suggest any other tablet alongside injections..?

So glad your blood pressure is normal and that your doctor is reassuring you.

To mirror clivealive's response have you had your folate level tested? It's hard to say if you require any more supplements besides your injections without knowing if your folate is in range or not or if you have anemia and/or low iron levels. Only a doctor should advise you whether or not to take iron supplements based on lab results as too much iron can truly be toxic.

Maybe others do have the head pressure and will respond. The symptoms as a whole are troublesome. I wish you well!

Heavy head from b12 shot

I have the head pressure, and have had every test under the sun. Was first told it was migraines, but that was before the B12d diagnosis. I have been on injections since early May - not every day, but I do find when I get an injection (now 2x a week, was 1x a week but not enough) in helps the pressure. I am trying to figure this maze out myself, so maybe not much help, but to let you know I also have the head pressure - it kind of can be all over - had it in the back by my neck, top of head, forehead, sides of head.

Thanks Lorilee60.

My head pressure stays for day or two, then goes off.. again comes after day or two.

With having this, do you suspect any other cause than b12?

I told my doctor about head pressure and she suggested i might be allergic to dairy. I wanted to slap her but i restrained myself. She appearently doesnt care to read up on b12 def/pa even though she has a patient that has one or the other. I mentioned it to her as a sign of improvement, along with being able to breathe better/deeply, as i am aware of feeling worse before better as brain repairs. I had just received my first b12 injection 3 days prior, when this conversation took place.

If your MRI is good, try not to worry. My head pressure stopped being so noticable after 5th or 6th injection.

At one point, i was just sitting on my patio and my ear started ringing really loudly and just as suddenly stopped about 30 seconds later. It was so weird but thankfully i had read about weird ear issues happening on here prior to it happening so i didnt freak out.

I'm so relieved to find this post! I've had horrendous pressure pain too! Feels like I've got a huge weight on my head constantly and when I put my head on a pillow it's unbearable, like lying on a brick. Yesterday my GP prescribed codeine and amitriptyline for nerve pain but I'm reluctant to take them. And he just won't recognise the connection to B12. Another 5wks til my next injection Hopefully it's a day off today as no pain as yet. How are you doing now? Do you still get the pain?

Hi Rat007, I too am deficient and started getting head pressure between my first and second injection that lasted for about three weeks then subsided .. I have only received two injections in months span due to protocol here and my doctor. I am trying to get loading doses until all my symptoms go away as I still have them six weeks into my diagnosis… Like others have said not clear if there’s an absolute normal is everybody’s different but I’ve had the same experience as you, if that’s any help. Good luck hope you feel better soon

It was same for my head pressure when injections were started.. so I think absolutely normal and not to worry about it.. pls continue to have treatment, I hope you’ll feel better soon
