I've found that alot of people from here use Medisave. They stock everything that you'll need and at a very good price. I use them myself and have found them to be excellent.

Thank you Penni. Job done 👍🏼. Can I also ask if you inject with same needle you draw up with?

I believe that diabetic syringes are best for B12. Any opinions?

Diabetic syringes tend to be 1 ml. If injecting the normal B12 dose of 1 ml I would recommend using a 2 ml syringe. That way it's easier to aspirate the whole of the dose without the plunger popping out.

Hi Nonameavailable. I use a green needle to draw up the B12 and a blue needle to inject with so yes...different needles to draw up an inject (the needles are very sharp but even the smallest knock on an ampolue can blunt them slightly - makes ouch ouch when injecting).

Agree with fbirder about the diabetic syringe, for the same reason - also - diabetic syringes tend to be longer and thinner - not so easy to handle as a 2ml syringe.

Good luck 👍

Yes I do use the same needle. Due to the nerve damage in my hands I found changing needles difficult.

I was recommended to get yellow 30g x05 needles . Anyone use these? From medisave

in reply to Nonameavailable

Yes, I use the yellow needles from Medisave. I do IM, so have no experience with SC, but don't even know the needle has gone in. Have never used any other colour.

Thank you, do you draw with a green ?

in reply to Nonameavailable

No, I only use the yellow needle. I followed the advice of B12d.org, they gave me a link to the Medisave site and it only included the yellow needle so that's what I have been using.

Can I jump in and ask how you get from the green drawing up needle to the other one, if that makes sense? I've had a practice run but only used one needle. Drawing up from that teeny weeny ampule wasn't very easy so I'd like to be prepared to use a green one if I have to go down the SI route in future. Ty

Just remove needle from syringe after drawing up and pop on what ever one you inject with. The green is a bigger needle , easier to sook up the B12, but not what you want to stick in yoursels

Thanks - that's helpful. I thought it was something like that but was told removing needle from syringe wasn't very safe. Sure it's fine if careful - and why wouldn't you be?!

Frodo, I only recently started self injecting. I've done about 4 so far. I practiced on an orange a few times first. I'll never look at oranges in the same light again!!! I use the green needle (0.0 x25mm) to suck up the B12, draw off any air in the syringe then put the cover back on the needle and pull needle off syringe, then add smaller needle mine is an orange one as I'm skinny I think? (0.5 x 25mm). I hold the syringe like you'd hold a 'biro', then inject and I don't hurt myself!! lol! Both needles come with covers. I use Cutisoft Wipes which is a skin cleansing swab but be sure to let it dry before sticking the needle in your thigh. Find a quiet room with no distractions and try the orange first. You'll need to get a "Sharps" box for used needles. A couple of pounds sterling from Amazon and your sorted!! Good luck.

Thanks, Jill. Ok with the injection part, strangely enough, it's the the drawing up and fiddling with needles and ampoule l don't like. Anyhow you've explained it really well so that's a big help!

Thanks, your very kind. Wish it was only filling the syringe that I didn't like! lol

Removing a needle from a syringe carries a higher risk of a 'needlestick' injury - obviously a potential source of infection - IF the needle has been used on a patient, and if that patient isn't yourself!

I think that's probably the context on which it's described as 'dangerous', so you don't need to worry.
