I have read so many posts that I am now confused, easily done at the moment as I am desperate and just spending my life waiting for my next injection at the moment. Haven't even got the energy for daily life like shopping and not be out for the last 5 days and my brain is a complete fog. I have some NHS B12 that will expire before it will be used by my 3 montly injections which I thought about using. Is there somewhere I can get like a starter injection kit with a small quantity of all the needles, syringes, swabs etc. I thought I had read about one from Amazon with 15 of each for about £4 but can't find it tonight searching this forum.
I am sure it would be obivious if my head was clearer and I could concentrate but I am so tired. If anyone could give me some pointers/links as to what I need your help would be much appreciated. Also do I need something to cut off the top of the vial or do you just snap it with your hand. Thanks in advance.

Hi Carer999. Not sure about starter kits but here's some links to reputable suppliers for syringes, needles, sharps disposal boxes...and hydroxocobalamin (1mg in 1ml). The links will take you straight to the items.
versandapo.de/article/detai.... (this is for 100 ampoules but the same thing is available in 10's - quite a bit cheaper to but 100 and long expiry dates). You can pay by PayPal - last time I ordered, it arrived within four days.
The ampoules snap of quite easily by hand - hold the top of the ampolue and snap away from the small white spot on the neck of the ampolue.
Note: For larger BMI, get 1.5 blue needles rather than 1.25 (gives extra bit of needle length to get right into the muscle).
Many here (me included) have improved significantly by self injecting B12 when unable to get frequently enough from our GP's - the first couple are a bit scary but once you get more confidence, it's really easy. (Use a syringe full,of water and practice on an orange to get used to,handing the syringe 😀😬.
I have a BMI of about 21 and use the 1.25 blue needle.
Using BMI was probably not the best way to describe it...was trying to avoid the 'f' word but...if you have a plentiful fat layer on your thighs, go for the 1.5 blue needle.
Hi carer999 ask to have your Folate checked next time you have your injection at the surgery.
There is a complex interaction between folic acid, vitamin B12 and iron. A deficiency of one may be "masked" by excess of another so the three must always be in balance
I am taking 400mcg of Folic Acid each day as part of a B complex and a multivitamin and mineral. As my folate levels are above the top of the range, is this an issue and should I reduce my intake. I am also taking 5000mcg of sublingual B12 each day.
I'm not a medically trained person carer999 but my opinion is continue on the 400mcg of folic acid as a "maintenance" dose which is something I have done for more years than I can remember and I've been having B12 injections every four weeks since 1972.
As for the high B12 - you cannot overdose on it as any excess to requirement is excreted via your urine.
