Update on seeing new auto-immune interest G.P.

Following on from my previous post about not feeling right, despite being on B12 jabs for 6 months after my P.A. diagnosis, and wanting someone to listen and not tell me that I was just stressed and depressed.

I think I've found a half decent G.P. at last. He listened to me, gave me a head to toe exam, even looking at my skin lesions under a magnifying glass. He told me that my skin rashes are not eczema or psoriasis, but an indication of an underlying auto-immune problem that isn't related to my P.A. He told me how the rashes start, rather than me telling him and he was spot on (excuse the pun!) He's referred me to a specialist dermatologist for confirmation and has given me a steroid cream to spot test on one skin patch, because the results will confirm diagnosis. He asked if I itch, I said no, he then said yes you do - constantly, but you don't notice that you are doing it! Again, spot on.

He is doing a full immune blood test panel to try and throw up an answer (including thyroid)

When I said about the pins and needles in my hands, he took one look at the back of my neck, prodded a sore patch and said he thinks it's a problem there and has arranged a neck x-ray.

I'm feeling much more positive now, knowing that someone is actually listening and can see that there is an obvious problem that needs addressing.

Wow! Lets hope he turns out to be correct in his diagnosis. It will be a coup for you to have found one who knows what he is talking about if he's right.

That's great. If only there were more like that! I think the usual response would be anti depressants. Indeed I was told by a relative's GP recently there was "no point" in diagnosing thyroid/auto immune because there was no treatment.

Ha, yes. He went to the Fobbing Off Techniques lecture instead, AKA Managing Patient Expectations.

So glad that you're feeling more positive now topazrat , it's amazing what a different gp can do, it's terrible that you have been feeling ill for so long, I hope that you now get some answers and begin to feel 'normal' again. There are so many people on here who have to struggle to get their doctor to listen to them , at last something is being done, I wish you well
