I don't see anything strange, basic blood test. But no B12 tested I guess?

Have a look at this: stichtingb12tekort.nl/weten...

Hi,

Have you read these books? They both cover B12 deficiency in childhood.

b12deficiency.info/books/

Martyn Hooper, the chair of the PAS, has written several books about PA and B12 deficiency. his latest is

"What You Need to Know About Pernicious Anaemia and Vitamin B12 Deficiency"

A link about B12 deficiency in children...

Does anyone in your family have PA or other causes of b12 deficiency? There can sometimes be a genetic link. see link below.

Members of the PAS range in age from toddlers to 80 years plus. PA can affect all ages. the PAS are a source of support and info.

There are other causes of B12 deficiency...see link below.

Are you in UK? There is a document "BCSH Cobalamin and Folate guidelines" which I found it helpful to read especially page 29, a diagnosis flowchart and page 8 about b12 treatment. The BCSH Cobalamin Guidelines and the following link

bmj.com/content/349/bmj.g5226

make it clear that in the UK people who are symptomatic for b12 deficiency should be treated even if b12 levels are normal range.

I looked at lists of b12 symptoms, see links.

I wondered if as well as the full blood count, the doctors had tested B12, folate and ferritin. If iron levels are low it is possible for the effects of B12 deficiency or folate deficiency on red blood cells to be masked.

I keep copies of all my blood tests, i find it helpful to track changes over a period of years. It can be much harder to get copies of tests/records from hospitals, can involve a visit to hospital records office. I think it is possible for parents to get copies of their children's complete medical records from GP surgeries, think it would cost at least £50 and I think would involve a formal written request.

One thing i found out was that some areas of the UK use local B12 deficiency guidelines. Some of these local guidelines have not been updated since the BCSh Cobalamin guideliens came out in 2014. I don't know if the NHS has separate paediatric guidelines for b12 deficiency to those used for adults.

Another thought, wondered if anyone in the family has Coeliac disease or thyroid problems as some symptoms of these conditions can overlap with those of b12 deficiency.

I am not a medic just a person who has struggled to get a diagnosis.
