Macrocytosis Correction

Hello,

For those of you who had/have macrocytosis, how long did this take to correct? My doctor rang to say I still showing macrocytosis. I have had 77 daily injections. Prior to that I was taking oral B12. Cause of B12 deficiency is as yet unidentified.

I am suffering severe lightheadedness with little to no improvement as yet.

Thank you.

Hi,

Just wondered if your folate levels were being monitored as low folate can also cause macrocytosis.

I am not a medic just a person who has struggled to get a diagnosis.

I've had elevated folate levels since my very first test in March. I've continued to supplement though as I'm having daily injections..

macrocytosis should disappear as your existing red blood cells die and are replaced. Red blood cells live for about 120 days so it wouldn't be surprising to still be showing signs of macrocytosis at 77 days. Did your GP imply that it was less than it had been?

He didn't say. I had a lot of questions and missed this one! I'll try to get a hold of my blood test next week.
