Hello, My serum B12 is 195ng/l. folate 9.5 ug/l. Doctor refused treatment, because it is "normal" Before I will start injections (somehow) want to try sublingual supplements, so if I take 2mg B12 daily, how much folic acid do I need to take with it? Thanks in advance

Folic acid with oral B12
Your B12 at 195 is normal for someone suffering from untreated P.A. or B12 deficiency. Your folate is OK. If you start self -injecting, or taking sub-linguals . I would take a Vitamin B complex just to make sure. I do not know how much B9(folate) you should take. I just assume that the vitamin manufacturers know! You could just up your intake of folate rich vegetables and fruits .

Recent UK documents make it clear that people who are symptomatic for B12 deficiency should be treated even if B12 blood levels are normal range.

Have you had an Active B12 test? Homocysteine, MMA, full blood count (FBC), blood smear (blood film)? Supplementing with b12 may affect results of these tests. see link below for info on B12 testing.

Have you ever had an IFA (intrinsic factor antibody) test? This can help diagnose PA but is not always reliable. It is still possible to have PA if IFA test is negative. BCSH Cobalamin and Folate Guidelines mention Antibody Negative PA on page 29.

If you google Kerri Knox and b12, she will explain that a sublingual b12 is as good as, if not better than injections as the injections often carry other carriers and not good for the body.
